Today, I celebrate my third year in the Industry. I’m celebrating it with my friend Ira; we started work at the same time on April Fools’ Day, 2004. (Hmm, an auspicious beginning? I’d like to think so.) I know some people who've been in the Biz for decades and I intend to match that. This, more than anything else, is all about endurance. There's no other work for me, anyway. I can't do math so there's already a huge area of work that I cannot do. And I love the perks of my job: I get to write, I don't follow office hours, I don't see my boss on a daily basis, I get to travel, I have no uniform, I can go to work wearing t-shirts and jeans, I get to meet interesting people (good ones and sleazeball ones) and, on ordinary days, I get to wake up at 10 a.m., when everybody else is neck-deep in work. How cool is that?
However, the cons: I work on holidays and sometimes, the job extends late in the night. And the stress is horrible. I know people who develop disorders because of the stress from the job. But I have been "acclimatized" since college, so I'm pretty much okay with the cons. I have conditioned myself, so yay! Here’s to more years and news to come!
