k, let's try this again!

May 30, 2011 17:31

for whatever reason my last post was mostly eaten and left only one photo and no tags or anything. lame. so i'll post properly with tags and such now!

so if you've had a look at my post already, please look again, there's more this time xD

---

hi! i'm Kris, just turned 20 and three weeks ago moved out of my parents' house at last. myself and my boyfriend have rented a room in his aunt and uncle's house, and it's been wonderful. living with my parents was always a pretty cluttered, gross, messy business, and i've been watching this community for years, so i'm finally glad to have a room of my own that's worthy of posting here! :D

btw, if for whatever reason you're squicked by crickets [or preserved remains of dead things], there is a photo of them in here. just so you know.

the room is awesome and has walls of a very pale robin's-egg blue, which can easily be mistaken for white. the carpet is bright red shag, and it's a pain in the ass to vaccuum but i love it to death [and so do all the animals, haha].
there are lots of photos, including details of the books in my [now very full between the two of us] bookcase, because i know you nerds like that ;3

this is the view from the hallway. the windowwws :> i was hesitant to stick the bed in the middle of the room like that, felt it would make it feel smaller, but it doesn't seem to create any problems.

and the bed. we finally got cases for our other two pillows, and they happened to fit the color scheme. :D!
you'll notice Fox, who hangs out there when the bed is nice and made, and on top of the tv or desk otherwise. we [the boyfriend and i] found him as roadkill back in january and skinned him more or less ourselves. boyfriend's father tanned him, since we didn't know how. and now he acts as sort of our space-protector/advice-giver. [the two of us are pagan and maybe a wee bit superstitious, haha. ;D]

to the left of the bed is the dresser, and my cat Stormy, who is glaring at the camera but normally is a very sweet, shy little thing. he's mad because he has to stay in here for a bit until we finish saving up for his neuter/shots. <3

cuter picture of him, haha. :D

on top of the dresser is our altar. most of the stuff is mine - i just had a much more elaborate setup when we lived apart, so when we built this one, his stuff just kinda got absorbed into mine. haha.

there are lots of little tiers up above the main space, and it's very awesome and handy, even though one of them is just used for our alarm clock. it's like ~magical stuff, magical stuff...~ -- clock.
and yep, that's the oberon zell Millenium Gaia. i don't care where She's from, She is perfect for my path, and i love Her to death.

behind Gaia is about half of my key collection. all of my keys have pretty interesting stories. the prize of my collection is actually on my keychain [possibly a bad idea >_>], and it is a real police box key [aka TARDIS key ;3] from a policeman's keyring circa the 1950's. it even has little scuffs on it from hanging around on his pants. :D

a shot of the top of the altar, where you can see part of collection number 1: skulls/bones/other dead things. xD
l-r: fox tail, raccoon, bobcat, very old, very small mare. [i actually knew this mare when she was alive; she belonged to my granddad. i've ridden her before.]

here is one of the altar tiers, with this absolutely beautiful leatherbound copy of Grey's Anatomy. best purchase ever. [yes, it ties in with my spirituality. hahaha. things are a bit literal in my Path ;D] also tiny candleholders with pentacles on them, a universe-sphere and a little Horus.
the coinpurse houses collection number 2: foreign/unusual money. boyfriend and i just so happened to both collect them, and i work as a cashier, so i'm all the time finding weird money. one of the coolest things i have is a white penny from 1943, when copper was short. :D

another tier with wet specimens. the little jars i did not bottle myself, the big ones i did. the larger yellow one is Fox's heart, and the smaller one is his gonads. hahahaha.
the five little vials house three honeybees, an extremely tiny hydra [related to jellyfish] and a tiny sponge. i rescued them from my biology class.

l-r: a cat leg bone, a deer knucklebone, little Nekhbet who i bought from a seller on etsy, a vial with most of a squirrel's skeleton, and the same squirrel's skull [and jawbone which came apart and chipped during the move. :c]. the squirrel bones were cleaned and prepared by me; the rest were found.

for some reason i didn't take a photo of my Serval shrine [Serval, an african wildcat, is one of my biggest personal totems] so here is an older but accurate pic of it from the old place. in the bottle is most of the skeleton of a stillborn serval kitten. the soapstone sculpture is from kenya, and the bag is by Lupabitch [made with serval fur reclaimed from an old coat]. so awesome. AND i may be getting some serval claws in the next weeks - for a cat whose remains are rarely sold, i am finding a bunch of stuff lately :>
and before anyone gets upset, i don't approve of killing animals for their parts, nor does any sane person, as far as i know. but i do like making use of things secondhand, as to prevent waste and deaths in vain.

my Earth turtle shell, also made by Lupabitch. it's awesome @w@

to the right of the bed is the bookcase! i'm so happy to finally have it again [for three weeks we had no money to use boyfriend's mother's truck in order to transport the desk and bookcase, so we've had to use boxes as furniture and most of our stuff had to remain boxed until this weekend]. sitting on top of it is my gryphon puppet, Captain Eyebrows McGee. [he is extremely scottish.]

top shelf - that pikachu was a gift from an ex-girlfriend, who found him in a goodwill. i'm fond of him because i had one exactly like him back in the pokemon golden age, when i was little. [also the source of the pillow at the bottom of the bookcase. which is only there because i have no need to sit on it atm. lol]
the other thing is a mbira/kalimba/thumb piano. i got it at the renaissance festival where boyfriend works. i love the noises it makes. <3

other end of the top shelf, with my DVDs, comic books [tank girl and blackblood alliance<3], yearbooks, magazines, a LoZ majora's mask game guide from back in the day, and an anatomy book. [guess what i like?] the magazines are spiritual 'zines given to us by our local pagan gift shop when we shop there, and they're not bad, but we mostly use them for bird cage lining, hahaha. but they're useful!

oh, and handy pamphlets handed out by a local wiccan church, in case someone needs more in depth explaining. jk, i can usually explain stuff pretty well myself, but i thought these were neat... they're not TOO bad. they're pretty good at explaining the huge umbrella group of pagan religions without being too exclusive. but not perfect, of course.

second shelf [that's a wax tart burner in the way, there. nothing special behind it, just a couple of cookbooks for sushi and vegetarian recipes]. includes my Mary Roach collection. [i have Packing For Mars, it's just currently in the living room where i read.]

second shelf, part 2. including my collection of DID/MPD books [<3], spirituality books and children's books.

third shelf, basically for my Harry Potter and Age of Fire series. also stuck a tarot deck in there to keep the books up. this is my original set, all the way back to elementary school, but one day i want to get all hardback with the jackets replaced on the ones i've lost. [also, i have Beetle the Bard as well as Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the two "schoolbooks" released about 10 years ago for charity benefit.]

bottom shelf part one... all my ~science books~. yes, i have a sciencecrush on carl sagan. also lord of the rings/the hobbit/the silmarillion [out of frame to the right; you can just about see the hobbit there], and my pitifully small xenofiction collection. whyyy don't people write more of this stuff

... damn, i forgot to photograph the shelf that boyfriend's books are on. well, basically he reads mercedes lackey books. that's mostly it. hahaha

the deeeeesk! so happy i have it back. oh, and a boyfriend. :3

here is the hutch of the desk, with my toy fishbowl [let's learn colors u guys], squeaky earth, two servals<3, ramen bowl [yes i have a special bowl just for when i make ramen ~don't judge me~], the rest of my key collection, and collection number 3: my tiny pokemon collection. i specialize, both ingame and collecting, birdlike or other flying-type pokemon.

poke-birds! ho-oh is around here somewhere - our pit bull puppy likes to play with him >:|. i also need to find my fearow cards and such!

here is the desk workspace. like my static screensaver? :D

one of my drawers wasn't put together properly and won't close right...

and it's completely freaking full of old art of mine. x_x

here is the door - including boyfriend's map of the LoTR universe covering up the previous tenant's stickers - and my gecko's tank, and cat post.

this bit of fat gecko tail is all that Ruth deigned to show me when i peeked in. haha

here is a better picture of him, taken before the move. he is named after my favorite Pern dragon, despite the fact that he is neither small for his species nor white. haha :D

and here are Ruth's crickets. they're cute, and chirp sometimes. :3

the closet, with the 'curtain' shut. which we never really do, haha.

here it is open. there is still a bit of work to be done here.

this is what passes as our entertainment center, haha. you saw the n64 and ps2 [along with our respective gameboys and DSes] in the white drawer in the closet, under the shoes. i was desperate for the tv to be off the floor, but had no little tables, so i just covered up one of our moving boxes with fabric and set the TV on it. [the drawer tended to bend under the weight.]

and here is the two of us, in the basement of a coffeeshop :D
[ignore my lip, i was in the throes of illness >_>]

that's about all there is to show! i really love my new place. the food is great, there is lots of room, and it's not stressful like living with my parents always was.

if you like my room, i'd love it if you added me! new friends are awesome. <3!

bed: double or larger, books, desks, colors: white, moving, closets, colors: red, animals, clothes, collections, dressers, bookcases, colors: black
