hey everybody!

I spent the last month renovating my room- ( as soon as it is finished, i will post pics here ^__^)
now that i'm almost done, something came to my mind: i want to buy two mice - but the cages are just ugly...

i had two rats, and their cage was perfect for them - but the floor around it was always dirty, and well, the cage was not that ( Read more... )

I had something EXACTLY like this: http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/tall-hamster-cage-with-accesories-26799514.htm for my gerbils! They're not bad looking - think you can find something nicer and more bird cage-ish? - plus it goes extremely well with the first room you quoted, I think. Love that room too! Good luck!

if you choose to stick with the aquarium-cage idea, you could pick out wallpaper/cupboard-liner/something equally durable and washable so that it can be rubbed down when you need to change their cagies... in a pattern that you like, and cut even-width "ribbon-like" strips and attach one strip around the bottom of the cage, and one around the top. or only one if you prefer. sort of similar to a room border, but for your mice cage? i think it would pull the cage more into the room ( ... )

I had a cage similar to this when I was younger for my hamster, and it wasn't as hard on the eyes as most cages

I don't know how well it would work for rats but maybe you could find something similar?
To be honest, I can't really think of anything that wouldn't be dangerous for them, other than maybe putting it on a small pretty table?
Good luck :)

that one isn't that bad indeed ...
oh a small table is baaad, cause i've got a dog and when he hits you with his tail, you get bruises xD i'm afraid he would knock over eyerything.. he can't control his tail xD

My mouse lives in a 10 gallon tank when I'm at school, and a 29 gallon when I'm at home. (she's spoiled, haha)
BUT since it's just a plain ol' glass tank, I try to make the bedding and stuff in her cage extra pretty!
I wouldn't paint anything on your own, since it would be difficult to find things that weren't toxic, since mice chew on everything!
But there is a really big variety of stuff out there, and I'm sure you could find something pretty!!! :D

and it stays nice for longer than 5min? xD
yeah it's hard to find pretty stuff that is not toxic, and even better not made of plastic.. i prefer wood, stone or something like that... i'm afraid they'd bite the plastic and swallow something..
do you have pics of your tanks? i'd love to get some inspiration^^

I was always advised not to use an aquarium for my ratties. I'm not sure exactly why, but I've seen it a few times, so I wouldn't go that route.
I saw someone once made a large vintage bird cage in to a cage for their rats by putting a litter box at the bottom for their bedding and then attaching wooden ladders and the like. It looked really cute because it was vintage and gold and had a nice vibe to it. If I can find it again, I will share!

Meanwhile, I like the first one on this page:

it's because in an completely open cage, there is better air circulation than in an aquarium, so for ex. in the summer it can easily get hot in there. also it's easier to hang stuff into a cage, but if you put another level on the top that is open, it isn't a problem =)
yeah, i thought about something like that too, but i don't have that much space.. also 2 mice don't need that much space..

i love the idea about the birdcage, but i'm afraid they will slip through the bars.. but maybe i can find a way to "tighten" those a bit..

that would be awesome! thank you! =DD

See, that makes sense. DON'T PUT YOUR RATS IN AQUARIUMS THEY'RE NOT EVEN FISH THEY CAN'T SWIM.
