Just a note for Eddie, so that he can (rightfully?) scold me. I ended up getting something slightly less than an ultra-high-performance summer tire. I went in and asked the guy about the ones you recommended, etc. He was very keen on Kumhos. I picked up a couple of Kumho ASX in the same size as the Contis were, with the idea that I’d trade a tiny bit of performance (how often do I really go squealing around corners? Not very often...) for better rain performance (which happens a lot in the fall). The plan will then be to run these summer tires until winter. New rims and tires for winter. Then next spring or summer depending on tire wear and cash flow, new rims and really good tires for summer high performace, or keeping these if I like ‘em a lot. So here’s the part where you say those are the worst tire you’ve ever heard of, eh? :D He also said that if I didn’t like these that I could bring them back within a week to ten days for an exchange with no problem. So I’ll let ‘em break in a little and then do some fun driving later this week. If they’re shitty, I’ll take ‘em back for something else like the Goodyears.
But man, are they QUIET. :)
