And Now, the big unveiling...

Yes, as some of you surmised, I'm going to Sweden for an op.... oh wait, no, not that one...   On Christmas Eve morning, I got engaged to be married to periphrlbttrfly .

I've been planning this for a couple of months now.  I had wanted it to be a complete surprise, but I slipped up slightly... a few times... and she'd already figured out that I would very probably be proposing over Christmas.  But I stayed firm and didn't let on any details of the exact method, though she would keep asking 'innocent' questions occasionally to try to trip me up.  The ironic thing is my few slip ups all happened when she WASN'T trying to pump me to info:  I told her that I had 'A Plan' for Christmas.  I almost told her about a conversation with someone that would've ended up giving it all away, but stopped myself too late to avoid arousing suspicions.  I had left the receipt for the ring in my coat pocket and asked her to get something else out of that pocket.  She didn't find it, but I was too clumsy in finding out whether she'd found anything, and tipped her off that there was something to find (Luckily, I was wearing a shirt that had a secret pocket along the side, so I was able to hide it).

So, here's what happened:

Christmas Eve morning, she came over to my place so that we could exchange gifts before heading out to visit family.  My present was this:

Inside of this was a blue tin with a pretty snowflake design on the lid and a little 3-pack of Ferrero Rocher on top.  When she opened the tin, she found this:

It's hard to tell in this picture, but the candies inside (ordered from mymms.com) alternately read her name and "Will You Marry Me" as seen in this closeup of one:

While she was opening the tin, I had slipped down from where I'd been sitting and onto one knee.  Then, while she was starting to shake and tear up from excitement, I opened the inner box for her:

For those interested in such things, it is an Oval Cut Natural Sapphire in a Bezel setting, with a small diamond on either side.  The ring itself is white gold.

Once I'd opened the box, I asked her The Question.  She responded with an emphatic nod and choked out the 'yes' and I put the ring on her finger.

Result: Very happy (and somewhat disoriented and distracted for the rest of the day) new fiance:

We don't have any details yet on the wedding itself.  As far as I'm concerned, it can't happen too soon, but there's a lot of logistics to figure out first.

More updates on that as they happen.
