So, mom and I went out to Austin today, as planned, and I... came back with an amazing haul. I also had a pretty good time, never mind the fact that I kept nodding off during the car ride and was grumpy for a while there due to lack of sleep. (watching The Dark Knight and S4 of House's last two episodes was much more important!) we also got a little turned around because.. we don't go into Austin much. and I also learned that the advertising there is amazing, apparently! ("If it's in stock, we've got it! ;Db", "Taco shack, home of the shack taco", etc)
anyway, list of books under the cut. and probably a bit of nerd rambling, but when is there not? :|
+ Tangled Webs, by Anne Bishop
- Fuck yes, 10$ you are cheaper than 20-something
+ Full Moon, book 2 of the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher
+ Grave Peril, book 3 of the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher
+ Summer Knight, book 4 of the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher
+ White Night, a novel of the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher
- This is me taking /tg/'s word for it. For 5$ a book, it's worth the risk. Especially since they were completely right about the Commissar Cain novels.
+ First and Only, A Gaunt's Ghosts novel, by Dan Abnett
+ Ghostmaker, A Gaunt's Ghosts novel, by Dan Abnett
- Again, taking /tg/'s word for it. Not sure if I can actually read these yet though. Need to wiki up the order they were written in.
+ Gilead's Blood, A Gilead novel, by Dan Abnett & Nik Vincent
- I thought some Warhammer Fantasy could be fun, to balance out all my GRIMDARK 40k stuff.
+ The Wraiths of Will and Pleasure, by Storm Constantine
+ The Crown of Silence, by Storm Constantine
+ Scenting Hallowed Blood, by Storm Constantine
+ Stalking Tender Prey, by Storm Constantine
+ Stealing Sacred Fire, by Storm Constantine
- Yet another set of books I bought based on a recommendation from someone I don't know at all. :) Constantine's stuff is impossible to find in my local area, and everything was an additional 20% off, so I figured why the hell not?
+ Blade of Tyshalle, by Matthew Stone
+ The Book of Mordred, by Vivian Vande Velde
- I've never heard of either, but the first seemed right up my alley and the second... well, I've always had a soft spot for Arthurian shit, especially Galahad, Gawain, and Mordred.
+ Snow White, Blood Red, edited by Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling
- Adult fairy tales? Could be interesting.
+ The Sandman: The Wake, by Neil Gaiman
+ The Sandman: Season of Mists, by Neil Gaiman
- There's never any rhyme or reason to my Sandman stuff- I just get it as I go and can. I have no idea where these belong. I should.. probably look into that. :')
+ Shadow's Edge, book 2 of the Night Angel Trilogy, by Brent Weeks
+ Beyond the Shadows, book 3 of the Night Angel Trilogy, by Brent Weeks
- Still haven't finished the first one! D; It's hard for me to read through, for some reason, no matter how much I enjoy it. But again, cheap, can't pass up, etc.
+ The Encyclopedia of Superstitions, by Richard Webster
+ D&D, Core Rulebook I, 3rd edition, by Various
- I've got 3.5 and 4 as pdf's, but can never seem to find 3. So. /buy :| It will promptly sit on a shelf and never get read, similarly to its pdf relatives on Dante.
+ Vampire: The Requiem, by Various
- BAAAW, I WANTED CHANGELING: THE LOST, BUT GOT VAMPIRE INSTEAD. Changeling was no where in sight at either of the ones we visited and.. it's hard to say no to paying like 15$ to a book that normally costs like 35$. Not to mention it's in excellent condition. /score
Fuck-win, or fuck-win-est? There were a couple of titles I was looking for (more recs from people) that I couldn't find, but there's always next time. Maybe. I went ahead and bought myself a replacement set of headphones, and stashed some money aside for a gift for Harlot.. once she tells me what she wants. :| and hopefully a small external hard drive or something because damn, too many pdf's/manga volumes and not enough places to put them all.
