"What is permitted to others..."

Three hours of television last night.

Random comments on The Unit -
  • Am finally learning characters names. Maybe. Probably because of all the shouting this week.
  • Was much amused by Williams' impersonation of the Colonel. Loved him giving Bob grief over his failure to give a decisive yes or no on the state of his health... and then when Tom does come in and ask the same question, Bob gives the exact same "Um... I kind of have a little cold" answer. Jonas' and Mack's responses to Williams were hilarious, too.
  • Was bored enough with the latest Kim-drama to fast-forward through it entirely.
  • Loved how Mack needed no instructions whatsoever before giving Jonas cover with his horrific rendition of some song that I totally didn't recognize. I really hope he was trying to sing badly, because that was just... Hee!
  • Why is it that Bob is always always the weakest link? At least he did manage to come through for them in the end, so he does gain a little respect for that. Much time was also spent thinking, "Kim is so not going to be happy when they bring him home looking like that."
  • Loved that Mack was the mechanic. Very MacGyver of him.
  • Loved Williams' tearful recounting of the plot of The Dirty Dozen and the knowing smirks that Ron and Tom were both sporting long before Dr. Psychotic started trying to look for a way to exploit it.
  • Not quite sure what to think of Tom in this one. It clearly bothered him to watch his men being beaten, but he still went along with it all for a long time. Maybe it's not so much Tom that confused me as it was the whole point of this exercise. Bad enough to face potential torturing at the hands of your enemies, but to be forced to endure it from your own side...? On the one hand, I can see how it would be beneficial to be able to determine in advance who will and who will not probably crack under pressure. But on the other hand, I don't really see that this was a very realistic test. They knew that there was a time-frame, that they were never supposed to be in any real danger of dying, and that it was only their careers, not their lives or the lives of other servicemen on the line if they broke. It just seems sort of poorly-conceived. And not particularly loyalty-inspiring.
  • That said, Jonas' team rocked. Yeah, even Bob.

A couple of notes on Bones -
  • Loved that they addressed how Booth went about working on the case before it officially was a case by using his sick leave. Usually when someone goes off to investigate something on their own on a show like this, it's never discussed. I love that Booth is so straight that he feels obligated to take time off to work on something not specifically sanctioned by his job. But not so straight that he doesn't take sick leave instead of vacation hours. Heh. Of course, he's probably already used up this year's vacation time tracking down Angela's dead boyfriend and clearing Brennan of murder charges.
  • Nice that the Angela/Hodgins thing is still quietly moving forward. It sort of started out of the blue last week, but I like the subtlety of it now.
  • Am amused by how Bones continues to think that because she works with Booth, she can go around confronting suspects on her own. Fortunately for her, Booth is always around to back her up when she manages to do something completely reckless.

    And three thoughts on Alias-
  • Will is adorable. I love him in the field. He's nearly as whacked as Marshall when he gets to put on an accent and disguise. Good to see how much he's grown since the first time he was kidnapped, shrieking when Sydney burst through the door. This time I half-expected him to say "We've got to stop meeting like this" when she came in. He was definitely much cooler and more competent this time around. But man, he is just eleven kinds of stupid when it comes to Sydney. How very sad that his lovely little speech about how the world is a better place because of Syd doesn't so much make Sydney sound like an amazingly wonderful person as it makes Will sound like a bit of an idiot.
  • Anna is awesome. At this point, I can't remember at all why/how she ended up in that prison cell though. So all I can remember is the fact that Sydney never ever seemed to come out ahead in any confrontation they ever had. These always seemed to end with Sydney stuck somewhere, staring at lipstick on plexi-glass. So I had to snicker muchly at Syd's little "You will never beat me!" speech, because in my recollection Anna has never done anything but beat her. And now I am sad that they have erased the awesomeness that is Gina Torres to throw a Syd-clone at us. But mildly amused that only now, with Anna shaped as Sydney, will Syd finally be able to defeat her. Which is also a little sad.
  • Jack is brilliant. I loved his minor freak-out over Sydney's lack of home-safety, what with the "sharp-edged weapons" lying about all over the place. Not kitchen knives, mind you, but sharp-edged weapons. Hee! Bristow women scare him. And I'm guessing he still thinks of Irina as a Bristow woman, too. Heh. And also... babysitters! Jack sends a pair of SuperAwesome Childcare Specialist Spies to babysit one wee Isabelle. Armed with Early Childhood Development degrees and briefcases full of foam-packed baby gadgets. To baby-proof the whole of Syd's apartment. Complete with bomb-detecting security scanners. And rock at calming a crying baby. Hee! The SpySitters are the coolest thing ever! And Jack sent them! This show is hilarious. Hee!

I so don't care about the rest of it.
