Taped The Unit. Watched
House.
Over the last few episodes, this show has been ratcheting up the funny. First it was the snorts and snickers, then the giggles, now it's progressed to making me genuinely laugh out loud. These people snark the best one-liners.
Yay for short-term continuity! Nice to see that Cameron is still huffy about the article and that Foreman still fails to feel terribly guilty about it. I thought it was rather entertaining that although the boy's comment about Cameron's resentment wasn't really judgmental, Foreman nevertheless radiated an amused smugness that God was on his side.
Yay for long-term continuity! Loved that Chase was naturally the most open-minded. I especially liked the religious/psychotic debate. His hesitancy in answering House's "Did God ever talk to you?" was brilliant. He is undoubtedly torn between not wanting to discount the possibility that God does talk to people and not wanting to appear crazy himself. It clearly takes him a long moment to decide how to be most diplomatic about it. I almost get the sense that he wants to ask for qualification of what constitutes "God talking to you" and a hint of wistfulness that if God had talked to him conclusively - if he'd had enough faith to hear Him- then he probably would have stayed in seminary. But that could just be me overanalyzing a five-second pause in dialogue. Still, I thought it was a well-played moment.
I also adored that Chase was behind the whole "House vs. God" scoreboard. Nice to see that he's comfortable enough around House again to try something like that and that House never called him on it until the end. The last scene between the two of them was cute. The power games these people play with dry-erase markers... Hee!
And then there's Wilson.
Wow. He really is far more screwed up than even House is... and that's just scary.
Because as screwed up and self-destructive as House is, he is also self-aware in a way that Wilson doesn't seem to be. Everybody who has ever met House knows he's dysfunctional. He's brazenly, unavoidably upfront about it. But Wilson is so good at denial that he successfully hides from practically everyone just how much of a weasel he really is. And I love how this isn't really so much of a revelation as it is a validation of all the little things we've seen over the past couple of years. There have been glimpses all along that in his own way, Wilson is just as dark and twisted as House. He just usually conceals it better. Unless he's with House. The dynamics between these two characters are fascinating.
So. Two episodes next week. Must remember it's on Wednesday night too.
