Cassie and I had an enjoyable, and unexpected, weekend with my parents. Irene was just a bit of wind where they live. Cassie appeared to enjoy the adventure (well, excepting the 6.5 hour car ride). Lot's of pine cones, twigs and small limbs down in my yard (2 bags full and 2 bundles of limbs). Some of my plants had been flattened by the wind/flood, but other than that, no real damage. It is pretty obvious the backyard flooded quite a bit more than usual and when I poked my head into the crawlspace, the sump pump was running like crazy. The pit only had about an inch of water in it, but there was a high water mark about halfway up the pit. The ground under the plastic was damp near the hatch, but the plastic itself was dry on top, so no flooding of the crawlspace. I'm going to mull over whether I should put a more powerful sump pump in there (which requires redoing the pit and putting in a wider line--I have a quote from the plumbers on how much that would cost). Irene wasn't a particularly intense hurricane, but it seems to be about the most that pump can handle.
Anyway, I'm back home. Classes are starting two days late--on Wednesday, so tomorrow I need to get my act together.
