Filled out my census form last night. It only took a few minutes, that is, if you don’t count my few additional minutes of outrage in the section on race. I do not recall participating in the 2000 census, but I was moving around a lot in those years, so I may have just missed the opportunity. As low as a teacher can feel (and perhaps it is only new/inexperienced teachers?) after a flat and uninspiring class meeting, he can feel high after a good one. . . I am going to see the Mets play the Mariners tonight. It is an interleague game, and the previous two times I saw the Mets play American League teams at Shea they lost (in 2002 to the Kansas City Royals, and in 2005 to the Anaheim Angels) - so even if the Mets were playing well I would feel some trepidations about their winning tonight, and add to ( Read more... )

I wanted to clarify a little about my post yesterday about Reverend Jeremiah Wright's comments in his sermon and the speech by Barack Obama in response to the criticism of his association with the good reverend. For nearly a week, Mr. Obama has struggled to distance himself from a series of controversial statements by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who characterized the United States as fundamentally racist and the government as corrupt and murderous.
