Actually, I heard something on the radio a couple of weeks ago about programs in place to help non-violent felons reestablish their right to vote. Not being a felon myself, I didn't bother to pursue the mechanics of these programs or how they work exactly, but apparently, you CAN regain the right to vote if you go through the appropriate channels.
That's funny, you should tell campaign volunteers that you're not only a felon but that you're out on parole.
I think serving time for a felony has a ton of life-long consequences without being stripped of your right (not privilege) to vote. How can we call ourselves a just society if those who have felt the sting of justice do not have a voice in how it is dealt once their debt it paid? Should they not know better than anyone? Have they suddenly been stripped of the faculties needed to think politically?
Should there be nothing for which we don't have life long consequence? That is a moot question, because there are plenty of them with or without our input.
I relate this constant barrage of questioning equivalent to stores that ask you for your phone number when you go to pay for an item.
I always tell them I don't want to give them my phone number and they get annoyed and say they have to put something in, then I tell them I don't have a phone and they tell me a cell phone will do, then I have to tell them it's unlisted or unpublished then I have to tell them I'm homeless!!!
