so, how much should I be worrying about this?

Oscar. Maths. (waves to Sidheag and such)

They are "socially constructing" their math knowledge. This already pisses me off, for reasons no doubt familiar to anyone with a grounding in phil science. But more critically, they're only going to teach -- through May -- addition of the numbers between one and ten.

Oscar has been working on fractions, multiplication tables, etc. on his own, with significant interest. He's been playing enough games where counting back change is required (Monopoly etc.) and where measuring distance is required (strategy games where they can only hit a target within x" plus rolling the right number on the dice) and thinking about moving decimal points because of the differences between metric and Standard that I've been teaching him to figure tips.

I can keep doing home enrichment, but he's started coming home saying that they don't really do math, and that his math worksheets are really easy... and he's not kidding. He's supposed, for example, to circle the bigger of two numbers, both of which are smaller than 10.
