Law Abiding Illinois Gun Owners Win One - IL HB48 Defeated!

Mar 25, 2009 17:25

Today, Illinois House Bill 48, was DEFEATED on the House floor by a vote of 55 to 60, with one Representative voting present. IL-HB48 was introduced by anti-gun State Representative Harry Osterman (D-14), and would have made it needlessly difficult for private lawful gun owners to sell or trade their firearms to another FOID cardholder. The only means would be through an FFL01 dealer, whether or not there is one in your area. This would prevent families from transferring firearms amongst itself (including willed firearms), would kill most gun shows, and make it difficult or impossible for law-abiding Illinoisans to sell a firearm if there isn't an FFL01 nearby.
This piece of garbage legislation would have done absolutely nothing to prevent illegal gun trade, as a criminal with a firearm (possible stolen or prohibited) has already willfully ignored the law - It only served to harm law-abiding Illinois gun owners, by handicapping them with more useless rules or making criminals out of them.

No big shock, when reading the roll call - one of the yeas was my own 58th District Representative, Karen May. Congratulations, Rep. May! Your multi-year streak of opposing any and all common sense, win lose or draw, remains intact. I can't even imagine what kind of dystopian Harrison Bergeron-esque world you are working towards, but I'll be sure to keep voting against you and your supporters, and keep the letters coming your way (whether or not you really read a single one). Considering the caliber of people that make up the majority of this neighborhood, I know it's a lost cause... but I just don't have it in me to give up.
