1) The plot of today's Star Trek related Google doodle
(doodle archive) is "Kirk fights a Gorn again." I mean, we're obviously meant to think it's a light-hearted retelling of Original Series episode "The Arena", but
A) There's a redshirt with Kirk (original: Kirk is alone).
B) Kirk & redshirt beam down to the planet (original: Kirk is abducted by godlike aliens who wanted to get in on the "Abduct Kirk" fad that was sweeping the higher dimensions in the mid-2260s).
C) Tribbles are first encountered by the Enterprise the year after "Arena".
Obviously, this is some kind of historical-reenactment deal where Kirk and the gang go fight a Gorn every year for PR/goodwill purposes. Given that there was a thriving Federation colony on Cestus III during the Deep Space Nine era, they seem to have been successful.

2) Though the magic of self-google, I have today learned about Ormond Sacker,
Doctor Who character! Or wait, not a Doctor Who character, a... JAL character?
*click*
"The prefix JAL refers to the Big Finish Productions audio series Jago and Litefoot."
Big Finish are... those guys that do, like, Doctor Who radio plays, right?
*click*
"Big Finish began in late 1998 with audio adaptations of novels featuring the Seventh Doctor's former companion Bernice Summerfield. It subsequently was licensed to produce authorised Doctor Who audio plays."
Okay, pretty deep nerdery here. So who the hell are...?

"Jago and Litefoot is an audio series from Big Finish Productions. The stories involve Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot, characters first introduced in the Doctor Who story The Talons of Weng-Chiang. In the series, they solve mysteries involving paranormal or alien phenomena in 1890s London. Christopher Benjamin, Trevor Baxter and Conrad Asquith reprise their roles as Jago, Litefoot and PC Quick (now a sergeant). "
"The Talons of Weng-Chiang"? The Fourth Doctor episode? From thirty-five years ago?
*click*
"Yes."
Sooo, thanks to Google, I know I share this handle with a supporting character from a radio play based on the adventures of two supporting characters from a Doctor Who episode from 1977. That may actually be too much nerdy for me. I need to go sit in the dark and take stock for a while. 17-year-old-Tumblr-Ormond-Sacker, you're in charge.
