Happy 2009 everyone, I hope it's a good one for you and your loved ones.
Winter has finally arrived to Israel; you could say it arrived with Hanukah [dec. 22nd]. We had a few good days of rain. We had some rain yesterday, but it has now cleared up and it is just expected to be clear and cold for the rest of the week.
Rain is a huge bummer when it comes to going to work; picking up kids and stuff, but it's a blessing in disguise for the land, since as ever we are in dire need of water to fill up the Sea of Galilee and the reservoirs.
For us, it's bitterly cold as our cloths are just not warm enough and the dampness seeps through. We have no a/c at home; we really have to put on 2 radiators to heat up the living room. In the office it's worse, we have plenty of a/c but you need to crank it up to 30 c to get any heat out of it…which is weird, and it still takes a long time till it heats the office, a good few hours. We "fondly" say our office is like a grave yard because it's so cold.
So, Hanukah is done with for another year. We recently picked up a package from DH cousins. They sent the cutest outfits for DD. She's wearing the fleecy one today so she will be nice and warm. DS still needs to open his gift. Since yesterday he mouthed off in the car, we decided to hold off till today, if he behaves himself. Oh and we even got a gift, Sees Chocolates, YUMMY!!! Thanks so much S & G!!!
We're trying to crack down on DS disrespectful behavior of us that includes blowing raspberries, raising his voice and arguing.
On Dec. 30th DH had the first appt. for his implant. It went well. I asked him if it hurt after the anesthetic wore off and he said only once when it started bleeding and he had to press down with gauze. He doesn't look swollen. He followed the dr's order and plans on taking the pain meds [Tylenol w/ codeine] he was given [10 pills total, 1 every 8 hours] in full.
He took 3 days off work, but has decided that he feels fine, so he is going back to work today. On January 12th he'll have the stitches removed. The next stage will be in 3 mos time or more. Because he went to a top person in this field, recommended by our dentist, it cost him 4500nis (approx $1100) we're paying with 5 payments, but honestly it's worth it. DH has some extensive Oral history that include jaw surgery, so you really wouldn't want to go to an amateur.
Finally, Israel, some of you might know that things have heated up down south. Please know that my family (for the most part) and I are safe. We live in the center of the country. I don't mention political stuff much on the journal, partially for ostrich reasons and partially because I don't want to get in to political arguments that are futile. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone gets a different opinion from which ever media they seek the news from. I think you would have to live here a few years or to have grown up here to understand.
I'll just say this, I support my country a 100%, I "pray" for the safety of my brother who works in the southern part of the country [he commutes daily] and for the safety of our soldiers. I also pray that this does not escalate to a war on all fronts.
Consider this also, we did evacuate that part 3 years ago. That part isn't "occupied" and yet they were still attacking the Israeli towns, mostly Shderot. As you know the elected leader was run out of there and a terrorist group took over, though they were shooting missiles at us even when the elected leader was there, because he couldn't keep things under control.
We are the ones that provide them with jobs, water, and electricity. You don't see their neighbor Egypt volunteering for the job. Why do you think there is such a problem in that part of the world? Because Egypt and other neighboring countries never wanted to take responsibility for them even though they very much caused their situation.
I might not always want to live here, and we have our faults like everyone but I do believe that we have a right to a land of our own and it's only logical that that land would be Israel, we have had this land since 1948 and have been protecting ever since.
Just ask my husband what it feels like to be Jewish [even if you are a non observant Jew] and living in a country where you are a minority. People need to be a part of something…in Israel we can be a part of the Jewish nation.
Anyway…enough said. I'm certainly no expert.
