Arts and Crafts

So we got to day care today by 08:15, most of the kids weren't there yet, J [manager and teacher] was sitting at a table w/ 5 kids going over A, B, C's and another table was doing painting, but only had a girl there and L [teachers assistant] was there too. DS walks in, J asks him to come join them because, well [blush] he's so good with the A,B,C's…but J walks straight past him to the book corner picks out a book and sits on the rug there all on his own looking at it (a Disney book).
Well, that's fine up until breakfast is when the kids get to do as they please anyway in order to "warm up" to the day.
So I left and "L" comes to me and says, almost apologetic, "I've suggested to DS to do some painting and crafts with me a number of times but he doesn't want to, so I just wanted you know. He said he liked clay, so he did get to do one work with clay, but there are no paintings" so I said okay, that's fine. She told me she doesn't want to push him, so she only suggests and that there are also periods when kids don't feel like doing it.
To be honest, I'm not bothered, I'm not worried. After all, the day care is all about letting the kids lead the way, go in their own natural direction. It would be fun if DS would enjoy more art's and crafts with me, though to be honest I'm only mediocre and it never helped with my grades. Really, my mother was the only true talent in the family.
However, if Studying is his thing that is pretty Cool…and to my mind that is where he is going, so whatever.
I think 'L' just told me this so that I won't ask "why aren’t you putting up his pictures" or "why doesn't he come home with drawings"…

day care, kids
