Morning in America

Yes, it has a lot to do with the fact that I like the Democrats, but I found Tuesday night's midterm election very uplifting. :) Whether you're on the political right or left, you have to admit that the current group in Washington had gotten very complacent and there wasn't enough dialogue and compromise. The only really good thing out of this election is that the Bush administration no longer has the carte blanche to force their neo-conservative agenda into US policy. The Legislative branch will finally be what its intended to do, a check and balance to the Executive branch. Ironically, I think we will start to see some *good* policy starting to form out of Washington over the next 2 years.

However, Democrats (liberals) may gloat, but frankly, I don't see them bringing anything valuable to the table except as acting as a reality check for the Executive branch. That is a political party with no direction, no focus, and no realistic solutions. Much like the ultra-liberals who have been frothing at the mouth for the last 6 years, lots and lots and lots of noise, but no workable plan or solution. Okay, kids, you got what you wanted, let's see you do something with it! The real challenge now is to see if they, along with the Bush administration, can realistically get some progress made in Iraq an re-focussed on much more important issues for the US (e.g. Iran and North Korea).

Also, this election proves another important point. The US political structure WORKS. The people are pissed off and want change, and that was made known.

I'm more gleeful to hear many moderate Republicans finally standing up and declaring an attempt to take back the party, away from the Neo-Cons and the Fundies.

More importantly: the more people who pay attention to what's going who act, the better the structure will work.
