Goodbye OMB, Hello AC Nielsen

Nov 20, 2004 11:23

I just completed my first week of work at AC Nielsen. The job is awesome! The people are really friendly and very helpful. I'm doing LOTS of training, mostly on my computer for now, but next week I'll be getting a lot more face time with the team.

I've been all over the place this week. The office I'm primarily based out of is in Paramus New Jersey, which is about an hour drive from where in live in Flushing Queens. The commute in the morning is really easy since all the major traffic is going from NJ to Manhattan while I'm going the other way.

Because I'm on the Nabisco Account, I'll be spending two days a week at the Nabisco site in East Hanover New Jersey. That's a little farther from home, but only by about 15 minutes. I like driving - it sure beats taking the bus and subway, especially in the winter when it's cold as hell. The Nabsico office is HUGE and all the people there are really great and LOVE the AC Nielsen team. Everyone keeps telling me what a great team I'm on.

My boss Tina is really smart and so friendly. She's the Director for Cookies. Then there's the Associate Client Manager Kwok and the Analyst Alka who also work on Cookies. They're both great. I'm an Associate Analyst on Cookies so I'm at the bottom of the totem pole. Still, it's a very flat hierarchy so everyone really works as a team.

My mentor is this guy Tim, who's an Associate Client Manager on Crackers. (The Biscuit Group is comprised of Cookies and Crackers and while there aren't many overlapping projects, we're all still on the same team.) Tim is only 27 and has moved up the ranks here fairly quickly. This place loves to retain team members and move them up so I see a good future here.

I haven't really done much work yet. Mostly I've been training and reading and meeting people. I haven't been doing anything after work except going to the gym and spending time with Jason. It's a nice change of pace. Since I'm not in Manhattan, I'm less tempted to galavant around the city after work. For now, I'm just getting aclomated to all the changes - like waking up earlier, going to sleep earlier and driving back and forth to work.

Last week I got all of my madness out of my system - I went out with the OMBers for drinks; I saw Eric Himan last Tuesday; I saw Tyler Hilton Thursday; I ran all around Manhattan with Jason; and Saturday was Adriana's birthday. That was such a blast and a great way to kcik off the new job.

This week coming up is going to be great. I'm SO excited about Thanksgiving. Before you know it it will be Christmas and then New Years. I swear, time flies.
