If you're looking for a serious entry about life's drama, deepest sorrows and greatest joys, then look no further. No, sorry, this isn't about a girl, about work, or even about anything that directly affects my life in short or long term. This is more important than me. This is the Boston Red Sox.

Can you believe this is stuff isn't set up? Not even Shakespeare could write a finer tragedy than the story of the Sox. Why is it that the Red Sox and Yankees always, and i mean always have ridiculously exciting and close games? Why is it that just when the Yankees make you think the "rivalry" is completely one-sided (which it really is) and that the Red Sox will NEVER beat the Yankees in a crucial late-inning game agian, the Sox come back in only the most heroic fashion, only to bring back the hope of the cursed Sox faithful for yet another year? You'd think that after 86 years of not winning a World Series trophy, fans would tune out a losing team. The reality, however, is remarkably the exact opposite, as fans have never been more deeply and personally involved in the game than they are now. Why you ask? Because the Sox are always in contention, always thiiiis close (5 outs, 1 strike), but never quite good enough when it counts the most. I walked around downtown Boston after the game to celebrate, and saw pretty much everyone wearing every piece of Red Sox paraphanalia they could find (perosnally, im decked out in my Jeter Swallows T, Nomar jersey, and Patriots Super Bowl 38 hat). People were celebrating like they had just been given their freedom, or that they (cough) had just witnessed a World Series victory. Reality check. The Sox are still 8.5 games back and might not even win the wild card with the second highest payroll in the game (half as much as the Yankees). But assuming we do win the wild card, can anyone, Theo Epstein, God, or even Tom Brady make me believe the Sox can beat the Yankees in a best of 7, and then win the world series? The sad part is, I can sit back and say no, but if the tiem comes, I'll be just as hopelessly hopeful as I was last year. Hey if my Grandpa believes, how can I not?
