30 Day Writing Meme: Days 25-30

Mar 31, 2010 01:09

Woot! It’s time for the last batch of these. I’m not sure what I’ll post about once these are done.

25. Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them.

Yep. Shari and Roger have the zombie Nemo as a pet. They reanimated him so that they could find a serial killer, and didn’t have the heart to put him back to sleep. So now he hangs out in their house, being awesome.

26. Let’s talk art! Do you draw your characters? Do others draw them? Pick one of your OCs and post your favorite picture of him!

You guys’ll be relieved to know that I don’t draw my characters. The only artsy thing I do is pick/make icons, banners, and headers from stock photos. I get my wife to do art for my characters, though, whenever she owes me something/is really bored.

27. Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters.

Appearances are huge for me when creating characters. If I don’t have an image of them in my mind’s eye, than …well, than they probably don’t exist. I ’see’ what a character looks like first and foremost, with a lot of their personality, history, goals, and dislikes coming in second.

28. Have you ever written a character with physical or mental disabilities? Describe them, and if there’s nothing major to speak of, tell us a few smaller ones.

A main character in last year’s NaNovel had sever social anxiety. It made it hard for her to socialize with others, and effected how they perceived both her and her radical ideas (attempting to escape their captivity, mounting a rebellion, rescuing friends from a demon’s layer, etc). One of my characters in Hollow Reverberations had PTSD, and another had mild schizophrenia. Ysilde was color blind, and Roger dealt with major depression.

29. How often do you think about writing? Ever come across something IRL that reminds you of your story/characters?

Okay, I’ll admit it: I think about writing a lot. Several times daily, in fact. The littlest thing can trigger thoughts of writing: a song, a clip of a half-heard conversation, an icon, etc. Just the other day I was riding the bus to the hockey game, and I ended up sitting behind someone who was a dead ringer for one of my future Gothic Grapes characters. I wanted to take his picture so badly, but I couldn’t think of a non-creepy way to ask him, so I didn’t.

30. Final question! Tag someone! And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his/her characters!

Almost everyone I know is doing this meme, so, uhm, I think I’ll pass on tagging someone. *nods* Go ahead and do it if you want to, though. It’s really fun, and helped me to stop and think about my writing. ^^
