The whole Live 8 thing...for a good cause, some good bands. I planned on watching some of it, mainly the London concert because my three favorite bands (Coldplay, Travis, The Killers) were going to be performing. Maybe I'm naive, but I thought when MTV planned to air 8 hours of coverage of a CONCERT that they'd actually show the, you know...concert. Music, singing, guitars, jumping up and down...that sorta thing. Instead I am bombarded with ridiculous VJs talking about absolutely nothing. I don't think I ever saw a full performance. Every once in a while they'd play a clip then go back to them running their mouth. I was so excited when they started showing The Killers and about two minutes into the song..."and that was The Killers! So many people here! Yeah! Coming up...Joss Stone!"
Now I'm pretty sure this was only here in the US, but if a performer was something other than hip-hop, they either didn't get shown or got a minute or less. They didn't even show Travis! I realize they aren't well-known here, but is it really fair to show Jay-Z for over ten minutes? This concert just brought out what has been bugging me for so long about the music here. Every radio station and music channel plays non-stop 50cent!!Jay-Z!!The Game!!Eminem!!Sucker-free Sundays on MTV2!! It's this stupid, vulgar "music" that has taken over everything.
Is it like this anywhere else in the world, or is the US the only one plagued with this crap?
