Next weekend I'm going down to pay my rent and drop off a few things before I "officially" move. I'm excited but thinking about it makes me anxious. Good and bad anxious ( Read more... )

Before we laughed when girls in beauty pageants stared into the camera with that calm yet determined voice and said When I Grow Up I Want To Be President. Now, we have it in all of it's made for tv glory

I love this, and of course the video, too. Great post.

I'm still waiting to find out this is all some kind of a joke. You know? But you can't script mass insanity.

That video is amazing. So much energy. I haven't seen or heard anything this great in ages.

Haha. I know. The sensationalism is almost lovable it's so transparent: if the election is a popularity contest, who better to have on your side than a prom queen! The terrible part is how seductive the posturing is (notwithstanding the GOP's effort to steal the Dems platform of change), but you point out how terrible the reality of their policy actually is, which it's always good to be reminded of.

What do you think of arcade fire? I felt a little surge of hope watching some of their live performances.

When he picked her, it just reminded me of bad 90's rap duets. To distract attention away from their own violent and sexist lyrics, every rapper had to find a girl who was ultra-feminine but raunchier than he was. Puffy and Lil Kim, Jay-Z and Foxy Brown, blah blah blah. Sarah Palin is even more conservative than McCain is, same old thing.

I really like the videos with the Arcade Fire and Bowie. I'm also sort of obsessed with those rare moments that Belle and Sebastian drop the chamomile tea act but I think I'd get bored watching them live.

Hahaha. That's a great analogy.
God, Method Man and Mary J Blidge were great together.

I know! Mary J Blige was way better before she started referring to herself in 3rd person.
But I'm all for The McHero/Moosekillah ticket using 90's rap-n-b hits for this campaign.

I agree so much. It's like one big fucked up movie!

I think I'll marry an international and move to EU or something if McCain gets elected. I think the Republicans have turned into a fascist group. It's like Mussolini Italy!

Army of Lovers! I LOVE THEM! THEY ROCK!

The Republican Convention was like watching Triump of the Will with cowboy hats. Really surreal and bizarre, even the stage layout. All that Country First talk creeped me out.

I haven't seen anything about this on the news, but since Bush went into office I know so many people that have moved overseas, and even now, I know a lot more people trying to figure out a way out of here.

I've been listening to Bronski Beat and Army Of Lovers to balance out the bad energy I get from watching the news! They make me feel better!
