obligatory omg i can't believe this election post

Next weekend I'm going down to pay my rent and drop off a few things before I "officially" move. I'm excited but thinking about it makes me anxious. Good and bad anxious.

Now that the initial shock and horror has faded to a mild annoyance, I appreciate Sarah Palin. I have led a very sheltered life and I didn't think people like this were real. They were always the worst case scenario, more like characters from a John Waters film or one of those UK character parodies of Americans but I did not think they were real, flesh and blood...oh my stars. You just list off your favorite stereotypes and here she comes. Before we laughed when girls in beauty pageants stared into the camera with that calm yet determined voice and said When I Grow Up I Want To Be President. Now, we have it in all of it's made for tv glory, the battered war hero and his feisty Hockey mom (because soccer is you know, European, and elitist) running mate ready to save America from...hmm...ourselves? Because I'm not from small town America, I don't believe in small town values like killing animals for sport, or rape, or incest, or xenophobia, or forcing religion on people. My interest in mid-century life is limited to furniture and the occasional dress, otherwise, I have no romantic notions of American life at that time and I question the sanity of anyone who does.

Why do the Republicans say they want less government, yet they still want to overturn Roe vs Wade and ban gay marriage? Am I missing something?

So whatever. Luther Vandross is singing backup for David Bowie in this clip, and it is beyond fabulous.
