Today marks a most momentus day: I got my G2 License! That's right, at 25, i am finally able to drive without another licensed driver. It was a long road coming lemme tell you. When I first arrived here from Cali, the first thing my mom did was sign me up for the driving courses, "now Olivia" she said, "driving gives you an independence you can never imagine, and you must learn" So I took the in class lessons, and then...went off to Western for my first year of university. Well I completely forgot about the course as i was so immersed in studying and the books (not), and being a froshy i did fun froshy things. In 2003, Rowan then gave me as a bday gift, driving lessons to the Young Drivers School, one of the most well recognized schools out there. By then I was living in Downtown and we only used the car on weekends if even at all, living right beside the subway it just seemed much more convenient. PLUS! Rowan had some STRICT RULES lemme tell ya..Being from England, everyone in his fams drives Standard and took their lessons AND test in standard soo Guess what? If i want to be part of his family he said, I must do the same (very harsh). Rowan holds the firm belief that standard drivers are better drivers b/c they are more aware of the road and the car and so it was the only way I must learn. Umm I took the in class lessons (passed), the written test, (passed), then...completely held it off for stupid reasons (probably fear) until recently. Sure I took some driving lessons here and there, but i wasn't serious.
Perhaps, it's the everyday commute on the bus and meeting crazies everyday to work, or the fact I can't drive "in case of an emergency" or even towing my brother's to a movie OR just even for the feeling of cruising by yourself on an open road...but I was soo determined to get it this year. And today..I DID IT! I was so scared today, and my hand's were shaking badly, i was PRAYING for a nice tester, and i had one, a really sweet older woman...and so it is that on my first try on the G2 in standard, I have PASSED ZE TEST! I am so beyond elated, and yes you can joke about my age, but honey, i will tell you...it was SO WORTH THE WAIT! (and I also told Rowan that it was the gift that kept on giving as it lasted a couple of years).
