I see your point re: things that are hard to spell, but I don’t place much stock in having a name that’s as easily remembered as possible. My participation in fandom is largely passive - I don’t draw or write fic; all I really do is read other people’s journals and comment.
I would argue that vainglory or vaniloquentia are self-deprecating in their own way, in the sense that I am well aware of my own pretentiousness and vanity and I’m just poking at it. XD I definitely see why either one would prompt some people to assume the holder is stupid or pretentious, but I’m not particularly invested in anyone’s initial impression of me, as long as they don’t ban me from reading or commenting on their journal because of it. Plus, orexisbella doesn’t sound unpretentious, either, so I think that ship has kind of sailed as far as I'm concerned. in search of, or an appetite for. I wanted to attach a ~*unique*~ word to the end, but um, I got lazy, orexisbella sounded good, and “an appetite for beauty” made sense. And then Twilol exploded, and I regretted that choice forevermore. so much less of a headache than S2. And with gossymer, grrliz and av8rmike on DW too, the styling possibilities are sure to be thoroughly explored. *claps*
I do think it’s fairly common for fandom people to be called by either initials or a shortened version of their username. It is unnecessary once you know someone’s real name, but I appreciate the existence of username “nicknames” because it’s more friendly and personal without being personal, you know? And orexisbella isn’t accessible that manner, and I’d like something that is.
Also, totally random but interesting: pyxis, vainglory, tirailleur and triquetra are all taken on lj. *ponders*
