Seoul Day 1

Jun 10, 2014 22:20

So after recovering from finding my hostel, I didn't wanna do anything, but if I didn't do something I would ruin my sleep schedule forever.

I went to Namdaemun, and despite being lovely weather when I went to the hostel, and it was drizzling when I left. I was fine with that because wow, when was the last time I was out in the rain?

I got to the market and it was REALLY raining and I was starving and had to go potty. I found a good public bathroom, then found a soup type of restaurant. I had some soup and I don't know if it was the starving or the crazy crazing for Korean food I've had for a while or what, but it was amazing. Had ddeok mandu guk (gummy rice wafer things and pork dumplings).

then I got my eyes dealt with. According to the eye guy, my left eye hadn't really changed, but my rght eye had deteriorated and since that's my dominant eye that's why I was feeling so blind. For 190 dollars Canadian, I got:
Eye exam
Free replacement nose guards for my sunglasses
Two glasses cases
More glasses cleaning clothes than I have glasses
A new pair of glasses with lenses.
Three of my old pairs of glasses updated with new lenses.
All the lenses were his 'middle of the road' model, not his fanciest lenses, but not his cheapest ones either.
Also, ALL the glasses were made/retrofit in 30 minutes as I said there being given drinks and chatted with.

It really freaks me out how many people in Seoul speak a little English, I'm used to pulling so much more of the communication weight. Then again, they're still really impressed with my ability to communicate, so *shrugs*.

I did some browsing around but didn't find anything else I wanted.
But I did find a sign saying I was only a kilometer from Myeongdong. I've actually been there before but decided to wander on over. It was interesting because it felt a LOT more touristy than before. I'm not saying it wasn't touristy before but I don't remember every other store there selling kpop idol merchandise or souveniers or both. Found a guy selling a Hyde from X japan shirt that looked super badass and I'm honestly still deciding if I should go back and get it. Main problem is it's a men's XL oo.

It really really does feel nice to be back.

Oh, and my hostel DID obtain Nemesis tickets for me. Wait, I think I said that earlier? Meh.
