OK... now that I have your attention... ^_^
So I was at the chinese grocery near my house, and the line was a little longer than usual. I randomly started chatting with the person online ahead of me. No need to get into the details- I basically mentioned rather wistfully that there was this realy yummy steamed ricecake that apparently went out of style sometime during my first semester of collage.
She gave me a recipe off the top of her head, and mentioned that the philipinos called it "puto" or "puta" or something like that. So, I come home, and I
google "puto" you don't have to use the link; the first entry was :
The urbane dictionary which said: spanish word for a male prostitute. sometimes it´s offesive for homosexuals. in mexico it is used for cowards and traitors. Huh??? o_O??
So I tried: to
google "steamed puto" which gave me some much better results. It looks like the recipe the woman remembered off the top of her head is about right; or rather, is a very "vanilla" version of the recipe; so I'll try that first to see how close it comes.
1 cup sugar
2 cups rice flour
about this much (hmmm, recipes seem to average 2 or 3) baking powder
a can of condensed milk (looks like this can be variably coconut milk, or some other creamy substance)
It's steaming in the steamer, wish me luck. ^_^''
