the male prostitute cake came out too limp and soggy. It's not awful, it's just kinda bland sweet mochi-flavored. Bleh. I guess it'll be ok topped with some chili/scallion/garlic stir-fry with just enough beef for flavor (as kind of an open-mochi bun)
The problem was that I managed to grab the one bag of sweet rice flour ('coincidentally' what you use for mochi) in the bin of regular rice flour. poo.
Further research found a
yeasted steamed rice cake (which looks to be the EXACT right one).
A nameless version supposedly cantonese using coconut milk and a
korean version called "Huat Kuih/Fatt Koh" which looks similar, but uses real rice instead of rice flour. The yeasted version says it takes 6 hours of rising. poo.
Hmmm, Puto tomorrow, and I'll steam some extra brown rice fo the korean version to make on Wed, and maybe I'll try for the yeasted on Fri/Sat.
