Mapping the Coordinates

I've spent a lot of time lately being places that I'd rather not be doing things I'd rather not be doing. With a fresh calendar year coming up in just over two months, I am beginning to evaluate this past year's accomplishments and adventures. In the same mental breath, I'm strategizing for the coming year.

I have been slow to begin work on the personal goals I set for myself this year. Each month would pass and then another. Before I knew it , it was the end of the third quarter. First and ten from the 20th yard line. Yes, I've got a long way to go. But I've started drinking plain green tea (herbal or peppermint) and diet sodas (instead of regular). Since I'm Hell-bent on keeping the sodas in my diet, I've conceeded and begun to drink bottled water as well. Other goals are slow to materialize and may have to be granted an extension into the next year, with a personal promise to pick up the pace.

Professionally, I've discovered that although I love my job, I don't love it as much as I thought I did. My time off this fall helped illustrate this fact and I really have to become serious about making my way in my own ventures. I'll fail, of course. But most of the time, you have to fall a few times before you learn how to stand on your own two feet.

For now, I'll take things one day at a time. I'll plan my days as they greet me on the calendar with an occasional sneak peek into the next week. It can't hurt to plan ahead a little, can it? Besides, I've got to make plans for spring break! I need that 'light at the end of the tunnel' to get me through the dark dreary Oregon winter days.

And, since I worked this weekend, I'll have Tuesday and Wednesday off. Hopefully, I can take Mom for a quick jaunt Tuesday AM so we can get our grocery shopping done. (and I have to pick up a belated birthday present for my brother, Kris.) Then on Wednesday, I hope to head up to Portland to visit the Japanese Garden, weather permitting. I hope to get a few good photos of the beautiful fall color up there, if my camera cooperates. I am afraid that it and it's pixels are on their way to that big bit bucket in the sky. Let's hope it'll be up for one last fall outing.

I hope you are all doing well and having a great fall. Anyone want to share how they are doing on their goals for the year?
