Recap and Re-treads...

Saturday was insanely busy and not at all as I had planned. After dropping the car off at the dealership in Albany, we met my parents who took us over to the Verizon dealer. We had both been experiencing problems with our cell phones and needed to have them looked at. Ultimately, a firmware upgrade on my phone and a complete firmware reset and install on Sami's remedied the problems.

After our exploits in Albany, we headed back to Mom and Dad's house. We packed their minivan with 2 rifles, three handguns and a ton of ammunition and headed out to the range. Mom's dog, Taz went along for the ride. (He handles the noise well now and for him, the thrill of being with his people outweighs the inconvenience that all that noise causes him.)

We spent more than three hours at the range. Most of the time, Sami and my father shot while Mom and I talked. Although, Mom did shake things up a bit when she came over to one of the tables, sat down and said she wanted to shoot one of the rifles. Sami and Dad chattered at her, telling her how to hold it and how best to aim. I think she'd fare better with a smaller rifle. But she had fun. Mom also fired off the 22 handgun a few times, but she didn't really like that one as it had a wee bit of 'kick' to it- more than she was comfortable with.

Later, I drove Mom out to Lebanon to look at house that she's fallen in love with. As soon as I saw this place, I knew why. It's more than 100 years old and full of charm. Unfortunately, it's priced at more than any of us can afford and will require a complete remodel inside. The landscaping is overgrown and in need of a bulldozing. But, oh- the potential that this place has. Ever since I laid eyes on it, I cannot get it out of my mind. Someday, I want a place of my own with that kind of history and charm.

While in Lebanon, we also checked on tire prices. See, I'm planning on leaving on Wednesday for a (hopefully) 3000 mile road trip. I was doing this (as usual) on a shoestring budget. Well, that may be a bit more difficult as I have realized that my tires are more worn-down than I thought. Dad says that he thinks the worst one will still make the trip, but I'm not sure he's considering how hot the roads get where we are going. I've only got 25,000 miles on these tires. I don't think I let them get too under-inflated. Why so few miles? Now, new ones are going to cost me between five and six hundred dollars. That's nearly 80 percent of my budget for the trip. I'll have to chance it- there's no way I'm missing this and no way I can afford new tires right now. I'm going to check the prices on good quality used tires, though.

So I ask you... how long do your tires last?
