A/N: So, it's been awhile and I'm assuming you've noticed that I've figured out how many more parts there will be to this story.  Six more after this one.  I'm torn between feeling overjoyed and terribly upset at the thought of it ending.  But I'm not going to go on and on about that and instead I'm just going to get on with it and post this new part.  <3

-Four Months Later-

“Is he alright?” Adrienne asked nervously as she watched her best friend’s boyfriend pull a face at both the toddler and infant staring up at him.  At his slight shoulder shrug she frowned, “Mike.  He’s obviously not okay with this,” she motioned towards the two children, “And you’re ignoring that fact.”

Blue eyes tore away from the giggling three-year old, who was now putting on her own show for the baby, to stare into Adrienne’s dark brown eyes, “I know that but I’m not going to give in and turn this into a pity party for him.  I am allowed to be excited about this, aren’t I?”

“Well…yeah,” she swallowed thickly, turning her gaze back towards Billie Joe, “But you have to admit, he does look pretty damn miserable.”

Mike barely glanced at his boyfriend, currently curled up on the far end of the couch.  Billie Joe had sat down in that spot the moment they got back from the hospital and hadn’t moved since.  It had been four hours and Mike had passed the point of feeling sorry for him and he was on the fast road to pissed-off-as-hell at the tiny man occupying the worn piece of furniture.

“I’m not going to worry about him right now.  I can’t worry about him right now, Adrienne.  I have a four-and-a-half-month old infant and a three year old that need my attention,” he sent a glare in Billie’s general direction, “He doesn’t need my attention right now.”

“I’m just saying…”

“Did you come over here to help me or defend him?” Mike’s voice rose with anger, causing the entire room to fall silent.  He was about to apologize when he felt a hand fall down on his shoulder.

“Stop, please stop,” Billie’s voice was small, almost broken, as he doubled over and picked his eldest daughter off of the ground, “Mike’s right.  I did agree to this,” he turned his attention towards Calico and gave her a small smile, “Do you want to go to the park, baby?”

“With the baby?”

Billie shook his head, “Nope, just you and me.  We’ll let daddy have some time alone with the baby, okay?”

She frowned momentarily before smiling and curling her arms around his neck, “She would jus’ cry, right?  That’s why we hafta leave her.  Can we play on the swings?”

“Yes we can, baby girl.  Now go grab a pair of shoes and I’ll find you a sweater.”

“I can get both, mommy!” Calico squirmed out of Billie’s arms and ran off into the direction of her bedroom.

Billie looked at both Adrienne and Mike, avoiding the cooing infant lying in between the two, “I just need out of here for a bit.  Adrienne, you don’t have to stay or anything…we’ll be okay, really.”

“Billie--” two voices said his name at the same time, he cut them both off with a short glare.

“I’m fine.  I’m just…it’ll just…I need some time to adjust.  And I just want to spend some time with Callie, is that a bad thing?”

Mike shook his head and pushed himself off of the ground.  He curled his arms tightly around Billie’s waist, sighing into his boyfriend’s hair as Billie’s arms wound around his neck.  He pressed a kiss against the dark hair before releasing him with a smile, “Just try and wear her out, okay?  She’s wired today and I don’t want to fight with her to go to bed tonight.  And thanks for finally moving off of that damn couch.”

“Me neither,” Billie replied with a smile, avoiding the latter sentence that had left Mike's mouth.  He gave his boyfriend a quick kiss, glanced briefly at the tiny baby staring up at them and hurried to help Calico with her shoes, “We’ll be back later.”

“Byeeee Daddy and Adie and baby!  I loves you!” Calico cried out as they walked out the door.

Mike couldn’t help but laugh softly at the way Billie instantly began shushing her, reminding her that the neighbours don’t like to hear little girls screaming in the hallway.  His laughter caused his baby to jump, her tiny features curling into a frown as she began to whimper.

He picked her up off of the blanket spread on the floor and cuddled her close to his chest, “Shh…mommy and Callie will be back in a little bit, don’t start crying, little girl.”

Adrienne stood up with a small smile, “She pouts like Billie.  Lucky you, a boyfriend and two daughters that share the same pout.  You’re going to have a hard time saying no to all three of them.”

Mike just groaned and gave her a smile in return, “Yeah, she does have his mouth…”

“I’m going to go home.  Call me if you need me,” she bit down on her lip for a moment before continuing, “I’m sorry if I offended you it’s just, it’s hard seeing how disconnected he looks from everything.  He was fine a week ago when we visited her in the hospital but now that she’s home…”

“He’ll get over it.  And thanks, if we need you we’ll be sure to call.”

Adrienne nodded and bent over to kiss the top of the baby’s head.  She straightened up and grabbed her jacket before easing the door open with as little sound as possible.  She smiled to herself at the sounds of her best friend’s boyfriend talking excitedly to their daughter and sent a small prayer that everything would be okay for the family of four.

Billie couldn’t help but smile at the way his daughter shrieked and squirmed out of his arms at the first sight of the park.  He let her run off ahead of him, making sure that she never went out of his sight as she ran straight for the slide.  Frowning at the sight, he quickly sprinted over to where she stood, scooping her out of the way before a small child had the chance to come sliding down.

“How many times do I have to tell you not to stand at the bottom of the slide?”

The three-year old rolled her eyes and giggled, “But I like goin’ up it like this!”

Billie shook his head and slid his hand underneath his daughter’s chin, making her stare straight into his eyes, “Baby girl, you can’t go up the slide like that because some kid could come down and hurt you real bad.  Or you could fall and get hurt.”

“My frien’ lets me go up like that.”

Billie didn’t even have to ask to know that the ‘friend’ in question was Tre.  He had been there the first day he taught her that climbing up the slide was better than sliding down.  That had been months ago.  It had to be because Billie remembers being pregnant and that was…

“Don’ be sad, mommy.  I won’ do it if yous gonna be sad.”

Billie blinked and stared into his daughter’s concerned eyes, “That sounds like a good idea, baby girl.  Now do you want to go on the swings or should we climb up and play on the slide?”

“Are you gonna come up and play with me!” She jumped up and down before curling two small arms around Billie’s neck, “I miss playin’ with my mommy.”

“I miss playing with my baby girl too.  I bet that I can beat you to the steps,” he grinned as he watched his daughter shake her head, hair flying into her eyes at the sudden movement, “We have to get a hair cut soon.  Your hair is doing something crazy, baby girl.”

“Is the baby’s hair gonna be like me?”

Billie frowned for a quick second before shrugging his shoulders, “I’m not sure.  We’ll have to wait for her to get a little bit bigger before we can tell.  Why do you never call her by her name?”

“I like sayin’ baby.”

“But don’t you like her name?” Billie questioned, feeling oddly calm about discussing the baby that he was still kind of iffy about while at the park, “Because I think it’s a pretty name.”

“What’s her name?” Calico pursed her lips and frowned in concentration, “I forgots…”

“Olivia,” Billie said the name softly, feeling a bit light-headed all of a sudden.  They had discussed changing her name, picking something different so that they wouldn’t always think of her brother and how they picked the names to go together not apart.  In the end it had been Billie who had put his foot down and declared that they had decided on Olivia and dammit, her name was going to be Olivia.  Mike had kissed him that day, hard, and they had made love for the first time in what seemed like ages.

“Oh-liv-iaaa!” Calico screamed the name into his ear before taking off for the steps that led up to the slide, “Gonna beat you, mommy!”

Billie shook his head with a grin and took off after his daughter and for the first time since he had had his second baby girl, he actually couldn’t wait to get back to her.

He knew that coming to the park with Calico would make it a bit better.  She always knew what to say to make him remember to think of the good things.

“I’m gonna get you, baby girl!”

Mike was sprawled out across the couch when he heard the front door open and close.  He shifted Olivia ever so slightly as he strained his ears to hear any sign of the people who had obviously just entered the house, “Billie?  Callie?”

“Shhh!”

He jumped at the small voice coming from the doorway of the living room, “Callie?”

“Mommy says I gotta be quiet or else he won’ make me ice cream,” she tried to keep her voice down but the excitement was too much for her and she ended up yelling out the last couple words, causing the baby to jolt and let out a loud cry, “Oh no!”

Mike was about to tell her that it was okay when Billie suddenly appeared and grabbed the crying infant off of his chest.  Mike was struck speechless as he watched Billie cuddle Olivia against his chest, swaying back and forth to calm the baby down.

“Mike, do you want to go put some pasta on or something for supper?  We bought some stuff for sundaes but I told her she has to eat supper first,” Billie asked softly, smiling over the top of his baby’s head, “I know she’s crying because Callie scared her but when was the last time she ate?  It kind of sounds like a hungry cry…”

Mike blinked and stared dumbly at his boyfriend for a few seconds before nodding, “Uh…yeah, I’ll go start supper and uh…she could eat again.  You…you…”

Billie just grinned and cuddled Olivia tightly against his chest, silently praying that things would stay like this.  That things would stay okay with his little family.
