A couple of days ago we stopped at our local Piggly Wiggly to pick up a few groceries, and I noticed a sign on the doors that said something like, "In order to support the Packers, we will be closing at 5:00 on Sunday, February 6th." (They're usually open until 9)
Does this happen in other states, or are we just exceptionally crazy here about our Packers? It's like state-wide peer pressure to watch the game. Which I am going to do, but I'm not that invested (gasp!) because I've only caught a handful of games since Favre retired...the first time :P
And in other news, we're supposed to be in the middle of a snowpacalypse, but it really doesn't look that bad out there yet. At 5:00 when I drove home from school, the roads were just scary enough to turn my usual 40-minute commute into about an hour, but it doesn't look like it's done much out there since. I'm torn. I kind of want more snow for a snow day. But at the same time I want class because I'm supposed to have a piece workshopped in my Fiction Writing Seminar tomorrow. And I don't want to shovel. It should just hold off until Wednesday. Wednesday would be a much better day for a snow day. Because, you know, the weather cares what I think.
Oh, but speaking of news, I was really disappointed by my fellow classmates in my Intro to Language class today. We were discussing the "top" languages of the world (those with the most native speakers), and that led my professor to briefly mention what's been going on in Egypt....and out of about 20 people, I think maybe three of us had any idea what he was talking about. It made me really sad.
Well, time to go frost my cupcakes. Hmm...that seems like it should be a euphemism for something. But really, I made cupcakes. Including a few experimental muffin-sized ones, because my mother-in-law got me a muffin tin for Christmas so I could make "giant cupcakes." Actually, now that I think of it, a *lot* of my Christmas gifts from her were cupcake-related. I think she thinks I have an obsession. But I suppose I do....
