Everything I need to know about life...
I learned in Conn's Philosophy 101 class. Pour example:
The word "disrespect" is a noun, not a verb.
- "Don't disrespect me." -- incorrect
- "Don't show me disrespect." -- correct
The word "human" is an adjective, not a noun.
- "I am a human." -- incorrect
- "I am human." -- correct.
"Episcopal" is an adjective; "Episcopalian" is a noun.
- I am not an Episcopalian, but I know plenty of Episcopal priests.
I also realized that even though one can claim to be objective or nonpartisan, a course in philosophy makes it really easy to be convertly propagandizing something or another by the fact that the proffessor chooses the readings and explains how they are interpreted. As humble students, it's a lot easier to listen to the prof than to decipher some arcande metaphysical rantings. I'm liking Conn less and less and Engel more and more, even though I should be thoroughly outraged at Engel's suggestion that we should all wear ties. See earlier post.
