Post FC notes
So, I had a lot of fun at FC. My only regret is that I had planned to not spend my whole con doing staff stuff. What happened? I spent the whole con doing staff stuff. We were under staffed for people with good initiative, technical skills and problem solving. There were a few who helped out, and a few last minute additions - I want to say a special thanks to
keetorca and
kasatka for coming to the con at the last moment, and helping out a lot with stuff at main stage. Thanks to everyone else who helped out at main stage too! I'll still be looking for people with good initiative, technical and problem solving skills in AV for next year!
Work negotiation
So, I've been trying to come up for a while a way where I can work remotely for a few weeks to a month or so at a time. I was considering a number of options:
- Quit my current job and do contracting for 9 months of the year
- Do a 100% telecommute job which I can do from anywhere
- Negotiate with my current employer to let me work remotely for some period of the year
I figured I would try #3 first, then #2, then #1. At my current job I hold a fairly senior position and have been with the company for nearly 7 years now. As someone would negotiate for a raise or more stock, I decided to negotiate for this.
I was able to get them to agree to let me work remotely for up to a total of 3 months a year. I would like to think I've earned this benefit, and it's not something that they would do for anyone.
My first work remotely
So, for the next 2 weeks, I'll be in Switzerland staying with
drakkor. I'll be doing stuff with him and the dolphins during the day (from about 9am to about 5pm) and then in the evenings from 5pm to 1am working remotely for my currently employer. Look for updates from Switzerland!
