As much as it may look like I have abandoned this LJ, that it not the case!
So, a recap of the past few months:
- Got laid off in January
- Went to Europe for six weeks (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, England, and Ireland)
- Moved to Santa Clara
- Moved because Matt started law school!
- Turned a quarter of a century old
- Lost my insurance because I turned a quarter of a century old/applied for new insurance
Not too much on the list...
I'm currently in my hometown, staying with my parents. This is because I'll be going with them to Thailand/China for a month at the end of October. It'll be interesting as I haven't seen my mom's side of the family for years and years; plus, it will be a huge contrast to my Eurotrip with friends. It will be so surreal though - my little cousins are not so little anymore as one is even in university! I remember when he was just a kid and we had a sleepover at my grandparents' house. He was so fond of me then *sigh*. I hope they like me! I will do my darndest to speak Thai but I've forgotten so much of the language it's ridiculous. When I was practicing some words on my mom, my pronunciation was atrocious enough that I twisted some regular words into swear words by mistake (which cracked my mom up).
China had not been my first choice as an offshoot trip. I have been dying to go to Japan for a while; the Europe trip actually came about because I mentioned to some friends that I wanted to go to Japan. They immediately jumped on that and said that we should go together, but instead of going to Japan we had to go to Europe first. I am such a pushover. My mom really wants to see the Great Wall of China and all that though, so China it is! If I get to see a panda, I won't resent it too much. ;)
Well, at least this trip should be much more relaxed than the six weeks in Europe. Traveling with the folks means that I won't be scrimping and pinching and doing the most economical things. Plus we'll have relatives to take us places and all that. And while we're in Bangkok, no need to stay at a hotel - we just stay at my grandparents' house.
I'm idly thinking about posting some excerpts from emails I sent to my and Matt's family while we were in Europe. They are mostly made up of descriptions of places/schedules, but they also include a lot of complaints and silly stories. I'll have to review them to see how that will work. I suppose I should also make some posts chronicling/mulling over the trip as well. How plausible this all is depends on how write-y I feel in the coming days. Matt's coming down tonight to visit for the weekend since he has a couple days off next week, which should distract me for a bit.
