tv show thoughts

Just finished watching Season 3, episode 1 of Orphan Black. My biggest concern right now is wondering if the show runners know where this is all going. It is starting to get VERY complicated and it could easily become too confusing to watch.

Delphine went evil pretty quick, pressing on Rachael's empty eye socket like that. I guess she is in the "do what I have to do" stage of her career. I did have to get up and walk away from the screen when she was doing that, it was making my stomach flip.

Not sure what is going on with Helena and her spirit scorpion...what they plan to do with her. If she is part of another impregnation plotline, that will be a bit much.

I'm slowly catching up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which still feels more out of obligation than actual enjoyment. I find myself sort of wandering off during the show. I really hope there isn't another tie-in with the new Marvel movie and that is why things don't seem to be progressing at a faster rate. I think I'm only two episodes behind now.

We did watch the final episode of Justified which I thought was a fitting wrap up to the series in every way.

I am so happy that they didn't go for a flashy ending but instead stayed true to the story. I was preparing myself for a blaze of glory, everyone will be talking about how shocked they were kind of ending. Instead, the writers made all the characters come full circle, no unnecessary deaths or out of character behavior.

Boyd not pulling on Raylan was a big deal. The entire show has been about Raylan walking the line, about how easy it would be for him to be nudged into the darkness (made me think of how Buffy could have easily become Faith in Season 3). And that final moment, when Boyd refuses to pick up the gun, decides that suicide by Marshall isn't what he wants, but if Raylan shoots him, he knows he has won...and Raylan realized that killing an unarmed Boyd isn't really what he would want, it wouldn't be justified! It was just a good moment.

The time jump was a surprise but a good way to wrap it all up. Not shocked that Raylan and Winona couldn't patch things up, it just wasn't meant to be, but it was good to see he was still involved in his daughter's life. It would have been easy to right the loner cop story where he is still only talking to her via Skype. I like that he moved down there and is clearly a part of their lives.

I had a feeling that Eva was pregnant. I think it was the mountain cabin sequence, I thought that would be the result. I'm happy it was kept as a surprise until the end though. And the fact that, in the end, the only person she could count on was family, even if Zacharaiah was crazy. Now she has a new Zach to help her get by.

The scene between Boyd and Raylan was hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. The reveal that Boyd was back to preaching was so funny. And the two of them snarking at each other through the glass...and then Raylan telling Boyd that Eva was dead. The look in his eyes, the tears you could see in both of their eyes as they said goodbye one last time..."We dug coal together".

It was full circle, well done and understated the way it needed to be. Fantastic ending to the series.
