I have 2 & 1/2 weeks of school left, I'm excited but I also have a lot of work to do!
I started job-hunting on monday, and so far I don't have a job but I'm still hoping. I've prayed to God that he provide me a job, so I know I will get one. I guess I just have to be patient.
I've been in the mood to write lately, not like writing in here though, I mean like stories and other fiction. I definitely want to continue with Petals in the Water. Is that a cheesy title?? There is some revelance to the title, these oiran were said to be very beautiful women so I wanted to place a comparison between them and flowers (considering Japan is one of the homes to the cherry blossom, or Sakura) and I also wanted to use that as a metaphor: Since oiran are courtesans, they are always having sex with new clients, even if they have one man that their heart belongs to, their profession consists of them sharing their bodies. I wanted to use that to say that the men bedazzled by them have to be content with only recieving a petal from the flower, they cannot have or take the entire thing. Another thing is that the brothel that the protagonist belongs to is called "Hanabira House", or "House of the Petals", because the women inside are as beautiful as the cherry blossoms surrounding the district, which to the protagonist feels like nothing more than an upscale prison. I wrote a random scene the other day in which the protagonist, who starts out as Akako but her status as top oiran leads to her name being changed to Kaminari, tells one of her friends that she has everything (money, power, fame) but at the end of the day is little more than a slave to the brothel and the red-light district Yoshiwara. I've thought about chaning some things, names, small details, and such. I even thought about changing the entire setting of the story and making Kaminari a tayuu instead of an oiran. Tayuu were basically the same as oiran except that they were the courtesans of a red-light district named Shimabara in the city of Kyoto. Tayuu also had one luxury that the oiran didn't have: the ability to reject any customer they did not want to sleep with. But I don't know, Yoshiwara was more popular, plus I like the history of oiran.
Anyway, I have to attend a play at school tomorrow night. It's called "Rainy Day People", I hope it's good. My theatre appreciation teacher is actually directing this play.
I'm going to a late night service tonight at church, it's gonna be fun. Well, I have to start getting ready for that. Good night.
