The moon is bright and full and perfect. When I walked home, I could hear a small chorus of frogs on the bluffs, lured by the warm weather into thinking it's spring. -

February in Santa Barbara is a tableau of palm trees against purple mountains, four turkey vultures circling against the veil of white cloud that hides the distant peaks and separates their slopes from the blue sky above. I was teaching a class at 8 am and so missed the inauguration, but I went back to my office to catch it on the radio. I was flustered to discover that my cheap little radio is FM-only (I only use it to listen to music) but quickly moving around the dial proved that one of the music stations was streaming Obama's speech from MSNBC.
