Okay, some of my favorite writers are doing this, so I'll be a copycat and do one too. Memey goodness. I can't list all the fic I did in 2007 because oh my God there were many and I can't remember anymore.
Favourite Story: Kind of a toss-up between
Pulse Point and
It's never a farewell. Both of them, I read and re-read when I'm stumped in other stories; there's something in the language of both that jump-starts me. Maybe because they're both about the nature of dreaming, and also about survival past the point you thought you'd end. I didn't write much but I think I wrote it well. That's all I ever need.
Most Fun Story: Hahaha, I was going to say the unholy trio of Human Women, Tea Time, and Firey Death; but actually, it was the one that started all that:
Teacup & Saucer. It was my first really cracky Doctor Who story, and it gave me a taste of how awesome it could be to really play in that universe. Plus, I may be a batshit Ten/Rose shipper, but I love love love the idea of Rose and Martha as friends. So much fun.
Hardest To Write: Oh, that would definitely have to be
Under the Wave. For starters, it was just so fucking long. Much, much longer than most of my fic even dreams of being. Secondly, it was plotting a mystery, which is also not typical for me. And thirdly, from an emotional standpoint, I started writing it before VM ended and I finished it after, just as I was having to get used to the idea that there would never be any more Logan, ever. Sad. It really is my love letter to that character.
Easiest To Write:
Blankest Year. Hands down. That story fell out of me in an afternoon. I was desperate to fix Season Three for myself and my ship... plus, Logan has always screamed pretty loud, out of all the little voices. ;)
Biggest surprise: Probably
Young lions. I've never watched much Classic Who, and I admit I'm not exactly up to date on knowledge of the Doctor & Master relationship prior to the new series; so I had to actually do research ! I never saw this one coming. It's been a while since I was writing the Marauders full-time, too, so it was fun to write the playful, boisterous side of kids and best friends; even alongside the inevitable sadness.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: Hmm. Well, I wrote a lot of Doctor/Rose. Ha ! That's not really a theme, but... this year's theme was definitely flawed love. It's always that. The only kind of love I know anything about.
the_grynne and I have talked about this, at length. The only theme I feel shows up again and again in my own work is flawed love- love that redeems and betters, even when one doesn't feel worthy of giving or receiving it. And I think
Signal this strong and
Heartless, as a pair (not a true pair or a sequel, just thematically related) kind of sum that up.
What's next for 2008: Oh my God, I shudder to think. Ha ! I'm kidding. But I am already writing a Family of Blood AU and trying to figure out what to do with some new Josef stuff and also trying to finish two original short stories that I'm quite proud of. STARK RAVING. I think 2008 will actually be the year I try to publish some original stuff- and I mean that quite honestly. Wish me luck, I'm just insane enough to try.
That was kind of.... cleansing !
