Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Soon it will be Christmas day

This was her first Christmas in Metropolis.

Barbara didn’t really know why she was there. It was a beautiful city, and she loved it, but it wasn’t really home and she wasn’t sure if it would ever be. True, she was firmly convinced that there wasn’t really anything left for her in Gotham, not with the way he was acting and with her clocktower destroyed.

But Gotham still had its own charms. True, it was almost impossible to get through a holiday season without someone trying to blow up the city, but it was still worth it to see the Christmas tree light up and the annual celebrations.

Metropolis had those, of course, but it still wasn’t Gotham. There was something missing. Maybe it was that edge that you gained just from being in Gotham, Metropolis was all sweetness and light and a much simpler place to be overall. Safer, maybe.

But Barbara missed Gotham. Even though she spent so much time when she was there tucked inside, there was still something about the city, her city.

She smiled, and picked up a phone. “Hey, Dad,” she said. “I know you were planning to come out here for the holiday, but how about I come to you instead?”
