Name: Rupert Winfred Zeiss
Gender: Male
Blood Type: O
Birthday/Sign: August 13th
Age: 16
Occupation/Grade: Sophomore
Room:
PB: Walter Delques from Tales of Legendia
Appearance: Rupert is your typical blond haired pretty boy, standing at about 5'6" with thick hair that goes down to his neck. His bangs are so long that they usually cover the left side of his face completely. He has blue eyes.
Rupert is always dressed so formally that it almost borderlines excessive, show-offy and unnecessary. He usually likes to wear some sort of suit while at school while others prefer to dress minimally so as to just fit the requirements of the dress-code, or slightly more than minimal just to make themselves look presentable. Rupert blows both of those groups of people out of the water. His suits are always nicely pressed and boast a black-and-white color scheme. He modifies only what he needs to to fit in with the dress-code; nothing more, nothing less.
Rupert is very particular about colors and color-coordinates masterfully. He's one of those people who believe the clothes make the man.
Personality: Depending on the person, Rupert's personality can be taken as a mixed bag of sorts. On the surface, he appears to be very driven and committed to pursuing a career as an attorney and a degree from Harvard in law, but if one got to know him they would discover he's vain, childish, arrogant, and is quite fond of trolling and witty sarcasm.
He tends to speak with a flourished dialect and often mixes British phrases in with his sentences. He is very prone to calling people "Mr." and "Miss", and will probably never drop this even if he is begged. He is also particularly fond of nicknames--whether he finds them or bestows them, it doesn't matter.
His fellow students may describe him as someone who is more insane than anything else, due to the way he obsesses over his appearance, and the appearance of his room, both out of school and in school. He is always rearranging things that look askew or out of place, and has a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder which he obtained from his father, Ashton.
He is also an eccentric in both his tastes and some of the things he might choose to do in his past time. The oddest thing he will do is swear revenge on carrier pigeons because he has a personal vendetta against them for a particularly traumatic incident involving one of his fancy new leather chairs as he was bringing it into his room. His vendetta has grown so large that it has also moved on to include almost all ornithological bodies. He also has a vendetta against cats for making claw marks in his fine mahogany armoire. There is a rather large portrait in his room behind his desk of a sole corner in the room featuring only an aged leather recliner and a finely polished mahogany armoire. He considers this portrait one of his prized possessions, and is always taking care of it because he feels it defines him. He has also taken great care to create a "chair hierarchy", which will be elaborated on more in-game, and has also created his own chart of elegance.
If it's not obvious, Rupert places great care in chairs, and furniture. He is absolutely obsessed with the idea of having a fancy office when he gets out of school. It's more like a dream, really.
When not playing Chess and drinking tea, these are the activities Rupert engages in. 8|
Status is very important to Rupert, and he has a bizarre definition of what it encompasses. Most will likely shrug it off, others may find it hilarious.
He is particularly difficult to fluster and anger. He's one of the types who gathers his wit and calmly thinks of a comeback while maintaining his composition so as not to show the other party that they got the better of him. However, when his choice of chairs are insulted or his taste in clothing is called into question, he immediately loses it and goes on an angry rampage.
Lastly, he responds fondly to flattery. That's the best way to get on his good side, though it won't gain you an edge in issues dealing with council matters.
He's also a narcissist. He is always putting himself over others, claiming that he has more class in his pinky than they do in their whole bodies. Sometimes, he'll go as far to insult their families as well.
History: The Zeiss family has a long-standing history of producing lawyers which have gone on to do great things in the realm of law. The family originally came from England, but migrated to the United States sometime after the 18th or 19th century.
However, to understand the Zeiss family, one must first understand the Zeiss family schism. It occurred many years ago. Few remember when it happened, exactly, but it's often told that it happened sometime after the pro-bono lawyer profession became a widely accepted thing. Two brothers in the family began to debate which was more important, public representation of law or private representation. One brother agreed it had to be public because the law was meant to defend those who could not defend themselves. The other brother agreed it had to be private because the law was meant to assist those who could afford assistance. The two brothers were helplessly deadlocked, the family eventually split in half with one brother moving down to the south to begin a line of pro-bono attorneys while the other one stayed in New York to produce a family of defense attorneys. They never. spoke. to each other. again.
This schism still continues in the Zeiss family today.
Rupert was fortunate enough to be born into the Zeiss family as the second son of Ashton Zeiss, a defense attorney who owned his own firm in New York City. His mother, Penelope Zeiss, managed her own bakery. He has one brother by the name of Stefan, who is currently working his way to becoming a graduate student at the famed Harvard law school.
Rupert and Stefan have never had a very close relationship. Because Rupert was the second born son, he was always coddled more than his brother was and sheltered. Stefan always saw his parents as more partial to Rupert, and as such took part in bullying him throughout his entire childhood until Stefan left the house.
As a child, Rupert was fairly secluded from other children. His father was very strict with him and allowed him very little in the way of concessions that didn't involve rigorous training in manners and how to conduct oneself as a son of the Zeiss family. He also took great measure to limit his son's time spent associating with other children his age and confined him to the mansion to practice various things.
Ashton's arrogance rubbed off on Rupert in a big way. Slowly but surely, Rupert began to adopt more and more of his father's mannerisms. He became uppity and stuck-up at a young age before he even entered pre-school. He viewed himself as an entitled child way before he even knew what the word "entitlement" meant.
This made Rupert's transition to school a difficult one, because people would seldom do any of what he said. The other kids viewed him as rather annoying and saw fit to play pranks on him (taking his crayons during coloring time, coloring all over his books during coloring time, putting gum in his hair during coloring time... needless to say, coloring time was a very rough time for Rupert on a daily basis). Ashton was absolutely appalled at these practices and personally saw himself deemed fit to chew out the appropriate administrators for allowing such horrid things to happen to his own child. Because of this, Rupert was yanked quickly from public school and placed into a more sequestered private academy for gifted children.
However, much to Ashton's disdain, this did not change the behavior of the other children when receiving Rupert. The childish pranks still went on and even escalated. Ashton never would've dreamed gifted children would act in such a way, and Rupert became frustrated. His brother, Stefan, decided to intervene and taught his younger brother how to fight back by pulling the same pranks on the other students in a much more subtle way. Ashton became incredibly unhappy with Stefan, but after being told politely to "can it", decided to acquiesce to what his older son was teaching the young boy.
Thus began Rupert's slow and steady descent into becoming a miscreant. He began striking back in a big way by putting glue in people's hair, taking scissors and subtly giving the other children "small trims", and just became all around disagreeable. This conduct was deplorable for a gifted academy and as such, Rupert was sanctioned harshly. However, the fact that he had struck back scared the other children because they could dish it, but couldn't necessarily take it back. Eventually, school became one big slew of whiny bitchfests and lengthy parental conferences for both Ashton and Penelope. Suffice it to say, Stefan was pleased with his work.
Luckily for his parents, Rupert's miscreantism slowly took a back seat to his growing sense of entitlement. He began to whine more, complain more, and was (for the most part) a pain in everyone's side. Because he was nothing like the boys, he tended to side more with the girls (who, for some reason, graciously accepted him into their fold). While this intrigued his mother, it ruined Ashton's image of Rupert even further, and alternative classes on how to conduct himself were necessary.
Rupert was enrolled into a 'guidance school' for young gentleman while maintaining going to school at the same time. Lectures on etiquette and manners just didn't take to the young boy, however, and before long, Rupert was complaining there just as much as he was at the academy. After several instances of routine bullying (yes, children in etiquette school can be violent too), Rupert soon came to realize he had to alter his personality in a big way because it just wasn't going over for others.
He did this by running to his mother rather than Ashton. His mother was understanding and consoled Rupert while talking him through his problems. She offered him the solution that, if he was nice to the other kids, they might be nice to him in return. Rupert almost saw fit to incorporate this, but Stefan once again intervened and told him that being nice would result in him being seen as a pansy. Rupert didn't understand what the word "pansy" meant, but Stefan's explanation intoned that it was not something good. So Stefan gave Rupert some tips on how to deal with his situation and still maintain his whiny, bitchy personality at the same time.
For a while, Stefan's coping strategies worked. As Rupert grew older and advanced further into school, the distance between him and the other kids began to lessen a little more. However, he was still seen as odd because he wasn't a typical guy. He hated sports, he hated getting hot and sweaty and instead preferred attending tea parties with the other girls. This resulted in Rupert being called a girl for much of the rest of his elementary years, and was met with much agreement by most of the boys he went to school with.
When it came time for him to make the transition into junior high levels, Rupert was met with a harsh realization. The whining, bitchy personality he'd crafted thusfar worked in elementary levels (somewhat), but the kids on the junior high level just wouldn't hear of it. His whining and complaining was met only with him being shoved in lockers and being tossed into trash cans. It was then that Rupert decided he had finally had enough. He became angry, bitter and obstinate towards the other kids. Stefan's strategies hadn't amounted to anything. He decided to start wearing a mask while mentally voicing his dislike of the other people around him and resorting to passive-aggressive exchanges of displeasure.
However, while one problem was solved, another one arose. Stefan was 18 years of age now, and had seen fit to start bullying his younger brother more than ever. It started off simple enough by Stefan taking Rupert's books and tossing them in the pool, taking Rupert's finely-crafted clothes and giving them to the family pet to destroy, and making an all around mess of Rupert's life. On top of that, he still had to deal with etiquette school, and his father had recently enrolled him in violin lessons because he figured a musical background would somehow make his son more masculine. He had more problems than ever. Rupert saw all of these things as personal attacks from Stefan, but Stefan was just lashing out from the way both of his parents had been babying the young boy. The two's relationship grew worse and worse as Rupert progressed through junior high, and by the time Stefan had finally moved on and left the house, Rupert never wanted to see his brother again.
When Rupert was 11 years old, the event that would change his life forever finally happened. As a boy, he always looked fondly on those posters that advertised you could be whatever you wanted to be if you put your mind to it and had the kid standing in front of the mirror with a doctor's coat on. Rupert had always felt the desire to become a doctor to help people. He decided that 11 years old would be a prime time to share this desire with his father. It went something like this:
"But papa, I want to become a doctor! I wanna help people!"
"NO! You either become a lawyer or I'm cutting you off, cutting you out and sending you to live with your cousins down south!"
Rupert was horrified. He didn't want to go and live with... them. He hadn't even met them. He had only heard of the other half of the Zeiss family over the phone while his father used expletives and euphemisms to describe what the man on the other side of the line should do with his cane. He tried to talk back to Ashton, but the man was very firm on this sentiment. Beaten by the inevitability of his reality, Rupert reluctantly accepted the path set before him.
By the time it was time for Rupert to enter high school, his parents had already started looking around for prospective schools to send their lawyer-in-making to. Stefan made the casual suggestion that Adessi Hall, a small school in Conneticut, had impeccable ratings when it came to grades and he said that some time away from home on his own might serve to make Rupert more of a man.
Of course, this was all complete bullshit. Stefan knew this. But he persisted nonetheless. Ashton and Penelope agreed to the idea, and shipped their son off to Adessi. The transition was not an easy one. Rupert made very few friends, but he was a capable student. When he ran for student council president in his freshman year, he was laughed out of the auditorium by many upperclassmen... most of which were girls. He was shocked! He got along so well with girls! How could they bruise his delicate pride in such a way!?
He retreated to lick his wounds for a while, and then decided to try again for student council vice president. Agreeing that the boys should have some sort of voice on the council and that Rupert was at least somewhat a capable representative, they allowed him to run. Rupert was voted in shortly thereafter and began serving.
Currently, he is in his sophomore year and trying to deal with the problems that came with his new position on the council: all of the girls that saw him unworthy to serve on it because of his gender.
He's not making any friends with his flamboyant-ness, either.
Other: Nope, I think that's about it here. I'll probably go into miscellaneous details in a separate post as they come to me.
