Our old bassist Christopher has been in the US for almost 10 years, and our old band was disbanded for just about that long. He flies in every year or two and last saturday he and Noel came to a reh. Since Lloyd is back as our singer, if Ado and Borj had been there, we would've been all together again in the same room for the first time since ... maybe 1991.

I can't even comprehend that. It's been sixteen years since I've seen all of us together.

I got my metal groove back, it seems. I felt it for the first time at the Blast From The Past gig last last Sat at Mayric's. About halfway through, I felt completely at home in what I was doing and started playing more or less with the energy I had ten years ago, with ten years of experience and tricks tacked on. Didn't know then if it was a fluke, but at reh a couple of days ago, I pulled it off again, so I know it's here to stay.

Lloyd couldn't make it that night, and so Michael Gene from Death After Birth filled in very ably for him. We've known the guys from DAB for almost as long as we've been musicians and we've never so much as jammed with them. I heard they needed a sub drummer from time to time and Mike said they'd be real happy to have me on tap.

I haven't played a jazz gig in three months though. I have one coming up, so I'll need to switch gears soon.

After the sat reh, picked up our manager Z and headed for a Helen gig at Our Father's Coffee on Taft. I'd learned my lesson and took care to sober up completely before getting there. Turned out to be a weekly hiphop gig called Locked Down, and the person who invited us turned out to be Monique from Seven Shots of Wisdom. She found us on Myspace, of all the places.

Had no idea if we'd go over well with the crowd, but I was hopeful. Hiphop usually goes well with DNB, but what we do is DNB-influenced, which isn't the same thing. But hah, some of em loved us and I saw the organizers bobbing their heads right along. There were cheers and applause. Afterward, Sunny from Urban Flow (does someone remember how "Miss Pakipot" goes?) didn't have enough good things to say about us. And so it turned out to be a very very good night.

We did finally take courage and debut No To True Love for the first time. In our manager's words, "ensayuhin nyo pa yan, ha?" But at least it's over, and it'll only get easier from now on.

Jon and Wig had to cancel recording so I lazed in bed most of sunday. In the evening, got a massage then rewrote drum parts to NTTL. Would've gotten em nicely notated and finished the lyrics but a couple of calls came in that I had to take. Slept really well and had a brilliant weekend.
