Field Notes: San Antonio, Day Two/Three ...

Mar 01, 2008 13:52

Oh my dear sweet lord, I went to bed at 3:30 a.m. (after a lengthy staff meeting and room reassignment), woke up at 8:20 a.m. and I loved every minute of it.

Yesterday, I took care of ticket-taking at the rally. A little bit of chaos with just 8,000 people attending, but manageable chaos. The Secret Service, as always, was very secretive. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful and the people couldn't have been more enthusiastic.

The volunteering down here has been amazing. So many people, so much time and so many doors to knock and numbers to call. The best thing is, these volunteers and precinct captains not only show up, they show up to play. Apparently, one man in the area (even before either campaign got here) signed up about 20,000 Obama supporters and volunteers on his own and presented it for use.

Today was a little more calm, so far. People have been stuffing into just this (one of seven) office alone to call, canvass, assemble signs and the like.

I'm sure I'll be out canvassing later on this afternoon! I am in heaven! Bananas for breakfast, chips for lunch and about 3-5 miles of walking. I love the campaign life.

And now, to continue the work that needs doing.
