BASEMENT JAXX, guys. We sang. The Metropole Orchest (from Holland) played. A US hip-hop dancer called
Lil Buck and a London ballet dancer called
Jennifer White danced. The soloists were
Vula Malinga,
Sharlene Hector,
Brendan Reilly,
Lisa Kekuala and the RIDICULOUSLY fabulous and awesome cabaret star
Le Gateau Chocolat. The soloists wore mostly period costume - hats, tiaras, frock coats, massive ruffs - and in the case of Le Gateau, skin-tight lycra, high heels and a giant orange... thing. The conductor wore headphones and at one point (in Drill Loops) conducted via the medium of doing the robot. The choir wore all white and
these ridiculous visor thingies which I secretly thought were quite awesome despite not being able to see a thing beyond the conductor at any point during the concert.
The only song I knew in advance was Where's Your Head At, and it pretty much remained my favourite - people who actually know about these things will care that Good Luck and a totally unrecognisable version of Red Alert were also in there. I came away really loving all of the music (as I now know it) - especially Enchant Me and If I Ever Recover.
