Obligatory New Years post.

And so a pretty good year has come to an end.

It started off pretty wretched and I was very, very miserable. BUT. I still got to go to New Zealand for a month and while there get accepted for a new job. So. It all worked out in the end, didn't it? That was the big news. What else?

  • Travel: I went to New Zealand (Auckland, Waiheke Island, Tiritiri Matangi Island, Devonport, Rotorua, Matamata/Hobbiton), Australia (Melbourne), up and down California (SF to SD), Seattle, Providence, Baltimore (many, many times), and New Orleans.

  • Friends: I made a couple of new friends and lost one very important friend (which still hurts and might for some time to come). I mailed some holiday cards and tried to keep in touch with those that are far away - and so many of you are far away.

  • Work: I changed jobs. An important milestone towards getting me closer to my current goals and one that was needed. I was becoming a very unhappy person and something had to give. It did. Thank goodness.

  • Personal: I turned 30. Another milestone but one I sometimes grapple with. I've also spent the majority of the year alone. Quite similar to last year. I'm increasingly starting to think that I'm going to end up an old cat lady. But, well, there's nothing really wrong with that.

  • To come: More travel - I've already booked another international mini-trip for early 2014 and there should hopefully be a couple of work trips in the future. *fingers crossed* More learning - here's hoping I can become more proficient and pick up more research skills. More time socializing - I spend rather a lot of time in my room reading books or watching documentaries or Japanese/Korean dramas. I need to get out more a bit and find ways to work through my introverted-ness. I just need to keep figuring out ways to get myself closer to being happy. I'm still not exactly sure what that means but I still want to strive towards that goal.
And on that note I'll keep this short. A very happy 2014 to all of you out there!
