My pet project for the day: transforming a pair of boots to make them look more
steampunk.
Every once in a while I really do like Hot Topic - well, their clearance section at least. I popped in yesterday to pick up a copy of VNV Nation's Empires (yeah, I know I should have had this CD a long time ago) and found a pair of clearance boots. $8 you say?! That's it?!! Well, ok, I'm sold.
I painted the buckled areas as well as a lighter wash of color in the grooves of the shoe for shadow-effect using a mix of acrylic paints (do I need a top coat for this kind of thing or will acrylic stay well enough by itself??). Anyway, here's the before and after:
With front detail of a pathetic looking gear but whatever, I like it. Maybe I'll go back and detail-work to make it look more like a gear rather than a wheel. Haha.
My only question now is: Should I paint on a bronze gear on the heels of my shoes? I've been thinking about it but am wondering if that might be too much... Thoughts anyone?
Thanks for anyone who took a peek and offered an opinion. I'm going to be relying heavily on you guys in the weeks to come to get this outfit done. ^^;
