Summary: It's hard to believe it's been eleven years.
It's hard to believe it's been eleven years, hard to believe that Teddy is heading to Hogwarts now and hard to think that Remus and Tonks should be the ones seeing him off, not this slapdash family of a grandmother, a godfather and almost siblings.
Teddy's laughing with James, teasing him about getting left behind, teasing him that if he's not careful he'll be in Slytherin in four years time, but his hairs flicking from blue to red to black to blonde, a sure sign he's nervous.
"I can't believe we're already here," Ginny's saying to Andromeda, Lily balanced carefully on her hip. Albus desperately trying to get out of the grip Harry's got on his hand, squirming and digging his heels in and pouting when his dad doesn't let go, not even a little. "I don't even want to think about Jamie going off to school. If I had it my way, none of them would ever grow up."
"It's easy once you've done it before," Andromeda replies, and nobody misses the look in her eyes, the hitch in her voice. Even Teddy, too empathetic for his years, stops in his teasing to wrap his arms around her waist. "Enough of that." She pushes him away with a smile, ruffles at his hair - black again, the same bird's nest as James - and bends to give him a kiss on the cheek. "You best be getting on the train, Ted."
"We'll see you at Christmas, Teddy," Harry says, as Ginny pulls him into a hug against her spare side. "You can let us know all about Hogwarts. I bet it's changed since we were there." Teddy's nodding, looking as serious as a seizure as he gathers his things around him. "Owl us and let us know how you're sorting goes."
"I will," Teddy says, knocking his arm into James', fluttering his hand at Lily in a wave. "See you." Albus tries to pull away again, screeches at Harry to let him go, hushes with a sharp glance from Ginny. The group of them stand there, watching as Teddy clambers onto the train.
"I suppose this means we made it," he says, waving at Teddy when he turns around to wave over his shoulder. "We're really adults now."
"Speak for yourself." Andromeda's laughing, high and clear and tinkling. "I'm still seventeen."
