Day 17: Good Intentions

Jun 20, 2009 00:14

I really had intentions of getting out today and doing more of Milwaukee, since I am back on the road tomorrow. It's not completely my fault, though I know I should have done more during the week. Today had great potential to be a flop, but ended alright.

So, I woke this morning after sleeping to long to find out it was still raining from the massive storm the night before. I love when it rains. I always sleep so much deeper. Hoping it would subside, I lounged around for a while. About the time I was getting ready for the shower, JP called me and asked me to check the basement for leakage. He was in a hurry this morning and forgot.

Unfortunately, there was a decent amount of water that has seeped in and soaked some of the carpet. JP began to freak out, but I calmed him stating I would begin working on the problem while he was at work. He requested to leave work early and was allowed. On the way home, JP rented a carpet cleaner to get the moisture out of the carpet.

By this time, I had been working on the problem for more than a couple of hours, using towels to collect the unwanted water. With his early arrival home, it meant we could check out the Sprecher Brewery Tour, something mentioned previously in the week. Of course, the tour was booked. So, we planned on going to Home Depot where JP needed some things for his garden and then to Kopp's for some frozen yogurt. The flavors today were something polish for Polishfest and also Symphony, modeled after the Hershey's Symphony bar and also named after the conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Call me bias, but I liked the Symphony flavor much more.

After dropping the stuff off at JP's, we headed to one of the malls. The mall we went to is called the "nice" mall. The main attraction for us was iPix, a multi-purpose cinema containing a bowling alley, bar, and restaurant. We just went to the cinema part, but it could definitely provide a full evening of entertainment in one building. Right before the movie, we wandered around the shops for a while window shopping.

The movie we viewed was "The Hangover." If you have not seen it, you need to. It was absolutely hilarious. I did not expect it to be as witty as it was. We surely laughed a lot. The theater was also very nice with real paintings on the walls and large, couch-like seats allowing a very comfortable experience. I will definitely go back there.

Following the movie, we headed to BD's Mongolian Grill. It was nice getting to make your own stirfry. I was in the mood for something spicy and was pleased with my outcome. Then, because the rain had picked up, we decided to ignore our offer to go out and instead headed home.

It is a good thing we did, the power was off in the entire neighborhood. This caused problems for JP's house, since his pump cannot work properly for the basement. Therefore, it was wet, again. I pulled out the towels that I used the morning, freshly clean and dry, ready for another round.

We lit some candles and chose to play a board game to help pass the time. It has been quite some time since I have sat by candlelight and played a game. It took me back. Finally, the power returned and we are now cleaning up and readying for bed. Tomorrow I have to get my car ready for the road again, so I'm not sure I will see anything before I leave town for La Crosse, WI.

I'm really okay with not having seen many things while here. I will be living here for 9 months, I have to leave some things to look forward to and I definitely have that.
