Federico Zuccari (1542-1609) painted in the 1590s two versions of the "Adoration of the shepherds". In both versions he sports a maiden wearing what appears to be a short-sleeved jacket only closed in the waist. It seems to be worn over a regular dress (sottana) worn without sleeves, so the chemise is visible, and also with an white apron. DOn't think I've ever seen anything like that jacket, but I wonder if it corresponds somewhat to the "pregnancy jackets" described in "Moda a Firenze" (page 102 and 103).
First version is from Fossombrone ca. 1597, second version is from Lucca ca. 1596.
