EMBROIDERED CAMICIA

My grandmother has joined me in a rather crazy project... Making a version of the embroidered Italian camicia in the care of The Met in New York.

So far I've sketched out the two alternating motifs; one with pomegranate, vines and acorn, and one with rose, fleur-de-lis and pansy. The first motif was the easiest, as there is a big close-up in the newest POF (where the pattern for the camicia also is). The other one was sketched after a close-up I made with my camera. It was a bit blury, but I think I got the essentials right.

For this project we'll use an antique linen (19.th century bed linens), and first thing will be to sketch the flower motif on the sleeve panels so they can be embroidered (enters: my grandmother). They will be embroidered with silk, as the original, but I don't think I'll be patient enough to apply the golden line-outs afterwards.... We'll see.

More to come!
